Top places to see... 

Beautiful wildlife in the UK 

Seals 

Colonies of Common and Grey seals in Norfolk 

are growing rapidly every year. Take to trip to 

Hunstanton, Blakeney or Horsey for the best 

viewing. Common seals have their young 

between June and August, and the Greys 

between November and January. Both suckle 

their pups for about three weeks during which 

they grow very quickly. One of the main reasons 

that Norfolk has an abundance of seals is the 

huge expanse of shallow waters and flat sand 

which is perfect for giving birth and protection. 

Deer 

During autumn the 'rut' takes place, where the 

males compete for the females.The young are 

born May - July. You’ll find many deer parks 

across the length and breadth of the UK. You 

can find a full list on the British Deer Society at 

www.bds.org.uk 

Dolphins 

You’ll find some of the best viewing places at 

Durlston Head, Dorset; Prawle Point; Devon; 

Porthgwarra, Cornwall and Cardigan Bay, Wales. 

You don't have to be at sea to spot them, as you 

can often see them near to the coastline but a 

boat trip gives you the best chance of seeing the 

dolphins. Britain’s biggest resident population of 

dolphins lives in Cardigan Bay. 

Puffins 

You can find some small mainland colonies such 

as the Bullers of Buchan north of Aberdeen and 

Bempton in Yorkshire, but most are on islands, in 

which boat crossings are available. Easier 

puffinries to reach by boat include Skomer from 

Martin’s Haven in Wales, the Farne Islands off 

Seahouses in Northumberland, and the Isle of 

May from Anstruther in Fife. Sensible clothing 

and footwear is required for these trips.

Minke whales - From May to September you may 

spot them along the east coast of the Shetland 

Islands; the Pentland Firth, 

Orkney and the Western 

Isles. Humpback whales - 

Conservationists are hoping 

humpback numbers are 

recovering in the North 

Atlantic. There have been 

sightings from the southern 

tip of Shetland from May to 

September. Long-finned pilot whales - These 

slow moving whales can be seen in the Minch 

strait between north-west Scotland and the 

Outer Hebrides from April to September. Sperm 

whales - Take a boat trip from the Outer 

Hebrides to the deep waters west of the 

continental shelf edge to see these giants. 

Britain’s biggest 

resident population of

Basking Sharks 

Reaching lengths of up to 12m, Basking Sharks 

are the largest fish in British waters and the 

second largest in the world after the Whale 

Birdlife 

With so many places to spot birds the list is 

endless, but if you’re looking for somewhere 

closer to home to spot more than the sparrows 

in your back garden, then why not try a couple 

of places that are practically on your doorstep. 

Thorndon Country Park - One of the best places 

in Essex to go birdwatching. The main “stars” of 

the Thorndon Country Park include Redpolls and 

Siskins. Southend estuaries - Considered one of 

the finest birding destinations in the Thames 

Estuary area. The estuaries are of key 

Shark. One of only three plankton-feeding shark 

species, these gentle giants re-appear in our 

coastal waters each spring and summer. The 

best places to see them are along the west 

coast of Britain, especially the Isle of Man, 

Cardigan Bay and between Strangford Lough 

and the Copeland Islands in Northern Ireland. 

Remember to follow the Basking Shark Project's 

code of conduct. Despite being a heavily 

protected species, one of the critical issues 

currently facing Basking Sharks is disturbance 

and harassment by water users.

What is the Brentwood Leg Club? The 

Brentwood Leg Club is a community based 

social clinic which provides free treatment, 

health promotion, education and ongoing care

the Lindsay Leg Club Foundation, a national

Each Tuesday, a group of volunteers and nurses 

prepare the church hall so that our members 

(existing and new) can receive appropriate 

treatment and on-going well leg care. While on 

the other side of the hall, refreshments are 

served amidst lively conversations. 

If you are concerned about your legs or if you 

are interested in helping us run these afternoon 

Club sessions, please come by on a Tuesday 

afternoon - no appointment is necessary! 

Parking is available in front of the church hall or 

on the grass to the left of the drive. Also, local 

taxi services know where we are.
