Anti-Bullying Week 2016 Anti-Bullying week 2016 takes place on 14 to 18 November, shining a spotlight on bullying and encouraging all children, teachers and parents to take action against bullying throughout the year. This years theme is 'Power for Good' with the aim of supporting children and young people to understand the ways in which they are powerful, and encouraging individual and collective action to stop bullying and create the best world possible. Parent Governor Vacancy We currently have one vacancy for a Parent Governor and four of our existing Parent Governors reach the end of their current terms of office at the end of December. Therefore we are seeking to elect five Parent Governors by the start of Term 3. Existing governors will need to stand again and be re-elected if they wish to continue. Anyone who has parental responsibility for a student on the school roll can stand for election. If you would like to stand then please complete a nomination form, available from Reception, or the form can be downloaded here. This must be returned to the School Office for the attention of the returning officer, Mrs Catherine Thompson, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday 25 November. If we receive more than five nominations then a ballot will be held. If you would like to know more about what being a School Governor entails, then please contact our Chair Of Governors, Mrs Isabel Marsden, via the School Office 0117 307 5660. Removal of Credit Charge Charges on Purchases With effect from 11 November 2016 the credit card charge of 50p per transaction will be removed when making purchases or payments to the school. If you require a reminder of your login details to access the online payments system please contact the finance office finance@abbeywoodschool.com. New Cashless Catering System From the start of Term 3 there will be a new cashless catering system which will enable parents to credit lunch accounts on-line. It will also remove the need for student catering cards as biometrics will be issued. An email will be going to all parents in the next week explaining the new system and requesting approval for the collection of biometric information. Your immediate response to the email would be very much appreciated. Weekend Lettings Caretaker Vacancy We are looking to recruit a Weekend Lettings Caretaker to work as part of our team to support and develop the school as a community resource. Closing date 18 November 2016. For full details of all our vacancies are available here. Car Parking at end of School Day Would all parents collecting their children after school please park in the overflow car park and not enter the school premises (except those using the disabled bays). The area at the front of school has become congested with many disabled bays being occupied inappropriately as well as cars being parked on double yellow lines. Coaches and buses are therefore finding it extremely difficult to manoeuvre with these cars parked illegally. Please park within the ACS overflow car park (not the WISE campus or double yellow lines on New Road) and wait for your child to come to you. Your co-operation would be much appreciated. Thank you. Brainteaser……. Lockdown Procedure Abbeywood, as are all the schools with the Olympus Academy Trust, are currently developing a lockdown procedure. Once finalised, students will be briefed and an exercise will be carried out. Advance notice of the exercise will be given to all students and parents. 8
On Tuesday 18 October, our Year 9 Students participated in the South West Ambitions Event at the SGS Wise campus. This gave our students the opportunity to speak and listen to a variety of experts from different sectors of employment. By attending this event, we feel that it helps our students make effective decisions about their futures. The event is organised by SGS, South Gloucestershire Council, UWE and works closely with 120 different employers, universities, training providers and other organisations who all contributed to the day.
