and govern these aspects, whether it
be traffic management or catering to
accidents. Our partners plan to come
back to us with a proper framework which
defines how they will tackle all these
challenges that include security, policies
around insurance, policies around the traffic
and more.
The privacy issue from a data perspective
is being handled by the Dubai Data
Establishment. We have a set of around
31 policies that tackle privacy, security,
commercialization, sharing, opening and
other aspects that fall under this domain.
This is from a governing perspective but
when we look from a physical perspective
we make sure that security is a priority
on every level of infrastructure. Our Chief
Security Officer at the Dubai Electronic
Security Centre is helping us ensure that we
are covering the security and privacy of data
completely.
Which initiative is the current on-going
focus of the project?
Currently, we are piloting a “City Leader
Dashboard” wherein city leaders can see
different data sets put together. The idea
is to have two dashboards; one is for city
leaders so that they can see all activity
happening live in the city and the second
one is for people so that they can manage
transactions and services around them
in the most efficient manner. We plan
to launch the City Leader Dashboard by
March. As for the Personal Dashboard, we
have already launched our first beta version
for Dubai in which you can access over 55
services from 24 public and private entities
via one application, more commonly known
as Dubai Now.
As you move forward ahead of your
timeline and we are not looking forward to
any delays, what is your plan for after the
achievement of the initial goal? Is there a

plan beyond the Enablement Years?
We have already started to develop a plan
for the next phase. Smart Dubai is not a
project with an end to it, it’s a journey.
Our first phase was to enable the city, our
second phase is to make sure that the city
is impacted once it is enabled, and the next
phase is where we start to see how all these
layers will impact different experiences.
We have already identified several KPIs and
our KPI for the city is “Happiness”. Earlier
this year we measured the city’s happiness
levels to be at 89% and we want to increase
it to 95% by 2021. Our next phase is for
five years where we will celebrate our
targets with our country’s Golden Jubilee
Anniversary. United Arab Emirates will be 50
years old as a nation in 2021 and before we
reach that time, we wish to reach our goal
of making Dubai the happiest city in the
world.
