Ericsson’s Board names Börje Ekholm<br />

new President and CEO<br />

Ericsson’s Board of Directors has<br />

appointed Börje Ekholm President<br />

and CEO, effective January 16, 2017.<br />

Börje Ekholm will also remain a member<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Board of Directors of Ericsson.<br />

Chairman of <strong>the</strong> Board Leif Johansson<br />

says: “I am very pleased to announce<br />

<strong>the</strong> appointment of Börje Ekholm. He<br />

has a solid understanding of both <strong>the</strong><br />

technology and business implications of<br />

<strong>the</strong> ongoing convergence of telecoms, IT<br />

and media. Having served on Ericsson’s<br />

Board of Directors for <strong>the</strong> past ten years,<br />

Börje Ekholm has full understanding of <strong>the</strong><br />

challenges and <strong>the</strong> opportunities Ericsson<br />

currently faces.”<br />

Börje Ekholm joins Ericsson from h<strong>is</strong> current<br />

position as CEO of Patricia Industries, a<br />

div<strong>is</strong>ion within Investor. Prior to assuming<br />

th<strong>is</strong> position in 2015, Börje Ekholm held <strong>the</strong><br />

position as President and CEO of Investor<br />

AB between 2005 and 2015. Previous<br />

positions also include President of Investor<br />

Growth Capital Inc., as well as positions with<br />

Novare Kapital AB and McKinsey & Co Inc.<br />

Johansson continues: “In <strong>the</strong> middle of<br />

a significant company transformation I<br />

am confident that Ericsson will benefit<br />

from Börje Ekholm’s world-class ability to<br />

forcefully execute on strategic direction<br />

and plans. Börje Ekholm brings years of<br />

experience from leading a publicly l<strong>is</strong>ted<br />

company with a strong track record of<br />

driving shareholder value.”<br />

Börje Ekholm says: ”I am very excited about<br />

Jan Frykhammar will remain interim CEO<br />

until January 16, 2017.<br />

Ericsson’s Rafiah Ibrahim recognized<br />

as “Woman Game Changer” of <strong>the</strong> year<br />

Women in Leadership (WIL) Achievement<br />

Awards have selected Rafiah Ibrahim,<br />

Ericsson’s Head of Region Middle East and<br />

East Africa, as <strong>the</strong> ‘Woman Game Changer’<br />

of <strong>the</strong> year.<br />

<strong>The</strong> award recognizes Ibrahim’s leadership<br />

and achievements in <strong>the</strong> Information<br />

and Communication Technology (ICT)<br />

sector. Throughout her career journey,<br />

Ibrahim believed in <strong>the</strong> positive power<br />

that technology has on people, business<br />

and society. As a change maker and a<br />

leader, she believes that in times of digital<br />

transformation, where both companies<br />

and industries are transforming, leaders<br />

have to engage <strong>the</strong>ir teams and drive <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

customers’ transformation agenda.<br />

Ibrahim has always been an advocate<br />

for women in leadership, believing that<br />

women are resourceful enough to tackle<br />

any challenges. <strong>The</strong> award ceremony<br />

highlighted Ibrahim’s leadership, talent and<br />

forward-thinking attitude to technology and<br />

business presenting her as a true role model<br />

for aspiring young leaders everywhere.<br />

<strong>The</strong> 18th Global WIL Economic Forum<br />

ga<strong>the</strong>red around 500 global male and<br />

female business leaders, policy makers, as<br />

well as young female professionals<br />

and entrepreneurs, to d<strong>is</strong>sect <strong>the</strong><br />

challenge of diversity, share experiences<br />

and produce actionable strategies to<br />

strive for women’s economic<br />

empowerment.<br />

During <strong>the</strong> event, an awards ceremony<br />

took place under <strong>the</strong> title of Women in<br />

Leadership awards and Ibrahim received<br />

<strong>the</strong> ’Woman Game Changer’ award which<br />

recogn<strong>is</strong>es a leading business leader for<br />

her advocacy in supporting and developing<br />

women talent and women in business.<br />

<strong>The</strong> awards was presented by Mohammed<br />

Al Shihhi, <strong>the</strong> Undersecretary for Economic<br />

Affairs, Min<strong>is</strong>try of Economy for <strong>the</strong> UAE.<br />
