recalls her Miss-Hits experience
with Judy Murray
Kate Maurici, Miss-Hits coach, based at Sheen Common recounts her
experience at the Royal Albert Hall with Judy Murray.
I hadn’t set foot in the Royal Albert
Hall for over 20 years when I
went up with one of our Miss-Hits
Players, Evie Forde, to meet Judy
Murray and take part in a Miss-Hits
demonstration at the beginning of
the ATP Champions Tournament.
I met Evie in the café who was,
as usual a wonderful mixture
of super excited to meet Judy,
determined to put on a great
show of all her Miss-Hits skills,
and secretly hoping she might
win something. As we emerged
into the Arena of the Albert Hall,
Evie gasped slightly. It’s an awe
inspiring venue, as I remembered
from playing in orchestras there
as a teenager. We were greeted by
Judy and her team, who got the
girls going straight away with their
trademark Miss-Hits dance moves.
Now these girls were an eclectic
mix of Miss Hits players. Some had
never done Miss-Hits, or picked up
a racket. Others had. No-one knew
more than one other person there.
Within 5 minutes of dancing to
the very easy to follow moves, the
girls were all laughing and joking
together. Had you lined up the girls
on an indoor mini-tennis court and
told them to hit a forehand and
run round the court, I doubt very
much whether they would have
bonded at all. In fact, I imagine
some would not have even wanted
to join in.
This is the beauty of the Miss-
Hits model. You may criticise it
for being pink and girly, but in
fact it is making tennis skills and
