The 17th Asian Art Biennale was
inagurated yesterday. Organised
by Bangladesh Shilpakala
Academy, artists from around the
world have participated in this
biennale which is the largest in
the country.
The month-long art festival
was inaugurated by the finance
minister Abul Maal Abdul
Muhith, at National Art Gallery of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy,
yesterday morning.
After inaugurating the event,
the finance minister said, “This
biennale will help to display our
arts to the world, breaking the
country’s political, social and
economic barriers.”
Asaduzzaman Noor, the
minister of cultural affairs who
graced the inaugural ceremony
as the special guest, said, “The
country’s history, heritage and
Band Fest 2016 kicks off

For the third consecutive year,
Channel i organised the annual
Band Fest. The youth is the target
audience for this occasion. Yesterday
at 11:05 am, the opening
ceremony started. Ayub Bachchu,
the leading man of the band LRB,
Ashraful Haq, the director of Edison
Group, Syed Nurul Islam, the
CEO of Well Food, Fakir Alamgir,
Kazi Habul, Omar Khaled Rumi,
Tipu, and Bappa Mazumdar were
present. During the programme
Faridur Reza Sagar handed over
a cheque of Tk1 lakh to Anisul
Haq’s foundation, that would
help local aspiring artists.

Reza Sagar, director, and head of
news of Channel i Shaikh Siraj,
director Zahir Uddin Mahmud
Mamun, and Mukit Majumdar
Babu were some of the noticeable
guests during the event.
Through out the day, bands
like Uchcharon, Spondon, Obscure,
Black, Teerondaj, Bappa
and Friends, Jooler Gaan, Different
Touch, Durbin, Mahreen,
Topu, Shironaheen, Bangladesh,
Metrical, Carnival, The Manager,
Torun, Conclusion, Scene,
Poraho, Jatra, LRB and 26 other
bands performed on stage. Other
than that, contestants from two
of Channel i’s talent shows,
Channel i Sherakantho and
Khudegaanraj, performed for the
occasion. The event lasted till
5pm. •

country’s overall correlation with

Liaquat Ali Lucky, the director
general of Bangladesh Shilpakala
Academy, and the convener of the
17th Asian Art Biennale, delivered
his addressing speech in this
programme.
This year, the ‘Honourable
Mention Award’ was handed
over to five artists, Kuntal Baroi,
Bipasha Hayat, Rajib Kumar Ray,
Shamol Chandro Sarker, and Dilip
Kumar Karmokar.
The ‘Grand Award’ was
handed over to three artists –
Kamrurzzaman Shadin, Harunur
Rashid and Dagmara Wyskiel
from Chile.•
