In 2008–09 the manufacturing industry employed<br />

9% (1,016,700) of all people employed in<br />

<strong>Australia</strong> (<strong>10</strong>,766,600). Males outnumbered<br />

females by a ratio of around 3 to 1 (74% males<br />

and 26% females).<br />

The largest employers of males in 2008–09 were<br />

food product manufacturing (114,900) and<br />

machinery and equipment manufacturing<br />

(94,<strong>10</strong>0). The largest employers of females were<br />

food product manufacturing (78,600) and textile,<br />
