Center (EMLC): GVK EMRI has a<br />
specialized department of Emergency<br />
Medicine learning Center (EMLC)<br />
focusing on developing skills in emergency<br />
management to individual emergencies,<br />
Multi-casualty Incidents (MCI) and<br />
Disasters.GVK EMRI has a state-of-art<br />
Emergency Medicine Learning Center<br />
(EMLC) and a dedicated team of highly<br />
qualified Emergency medical professionals,<br />
clinical educators who aim to cascade<br />
contemporary principles and practices<br />
of emergency medicine to all health care<br />
professionals and community response<br />
providers. The prodigious task of creating<br />
skilled manpower, in the form of Emergency<br />
Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Pilots<br />
(Drivers), was efficiently and effectively<br />
accomplished by EMLC throughout<br />
expansion and stabilization of 108<br />
operations.<br />
Furthermore, with a vision to take quality<br />
of emergency care to the next level to<br />
ensure global standards, GVK EMRI has<br />
collaborated with world opinion leaders in<br />
emergency care such as Stanford School<br />
of Medicine –USA, National Trauma<br />
Research Institute, MONASH<br />
University, Melbourne, Victoria<br />
Australia, American Academy of<br />
Family Physicians (AAFP), American<br />
Heart Association (AHA), American<br />
College of Emergency Physicians<br />
(ACEP).<br />
Training Institute<br />
Special status of EMTs at GVK EMRI<br />
EMTs at GVK EMRI are trained in<br />
institutional, hospital and ambulance phases<br />
for 52 days (nearly 450 Hours) including<br />
BLS- AHA, ITLS and Basic Life Support in<br />
Obstetrics global certifications. Every EMT<br />
is given a specially-developed learning kit<br />
containing pre-hospital text book, EMS<br />
protocol manual, work book, medical<br />
equipment maintenance manual, soft skills<br />
booklets, drug book and EMRI values<br />
booklet.<br />
All the EMTs are provided with annual<br />
refresher training. Objectively Structured<br />

Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) methodology<br />
is used for evaluation of skills acquisition.<br />
<strong>Ambulance</strong> Drivers at GVK EMRI are<br />
referred to as ‘Pilots’ and are trained in safe<br />
driving, ambulance maintenance, CPR, First<br />
Responder certification, extrication etc.<br />
Emergency Medical Services at GVK<br />
EMRI are provided by EMTs with different<br />
levels of competencies. They are broadly<br />
grouped as Basic and Advanced EMTs. To<br />
some extent, these will be determined by<br />
country and setting, with each individual<br />
country having its own ‘approach’ to how<br />
EMS should be provided, and by whom.<br />
In GVK EMRI the following categories of<br />
EMTs are providing services: Basic Life<br />
Support (BLS) <strong>Ambulance</strong> EMTs, Advanced<br />
Life Support (ALS) <strong>Ambulance</strong> EMTs,<br />
Neonatal Life Support (NLS) <strong>Ambulance</strong><br />
EMTs, Emergency Care Centers (ECC)<br />
EMTs, Inter Facility Transfers (IFT) EMTs,<br />
Boat <strong>Ambulance</strong> Services EMTs, Hospital<br />
Based (HB) EMTs, Advanced Post Graduate<br />
Diploma in Emergency Care (Advanced<br />
EMTS).<br />
Two-year trained Advanced EMTs obtain<br />
an APGDEC certificate from Osmania<br />
University, Hyderabad and a registration<br />
number from Telangana State Paramedic<br />
Board. Advanced EMT can carry out<br />
interventions like endotracheal intubation,<br />
interpret ECG and initiate ACLS protocols<br />
using defibrillator. In addition, Advanced<br />
EMTs will also have higher levels of<br />
critical thinking and the ability to manage<br />
pediatric, medical, and obstetric and trauma<br />
emergencies. EMTs working in various<br />
states who have shown commitment and<br />
exceptionally high levels of knowledge are<br />
nominated for a two-year Advanced EMT<br />
course at GVK EMRI with the permission of<br />
respective state governments.<br />
Operations: GVK EMRI has come a<br />
long way as the largest emergency service<br />
provider in India. Transporting the patient<br />
from the scene to the nearest suitable<br />
hospital requires the operator to maintain<br />
the rolling stock free from break downs.<br />
The key objectives of reliability, comfort,<br />
cleanliness, hygiene, timely arrival and<br />
financial viability are to be met with utmost<br />
precision. We endeavor to reach patients in<br />
distress and provide pre hospital care and<br />
admission to hospital within the Golden<br />
Hour via a well-focused and healthy<br />
transport system.<br />
