DEAR CAMPERS...
Welcome to another amazing Summer Camp at Dovercourt!
Our programming team has been working hard once again
to offer you the most exciting and unique variety of camp
programs in Ottawa. We are constantly working to improve
and think outside the box to give you the absolute best
experience possible. Theme camps and specialty camps
are all designed to provide campers with exciting and rare
opportunities, satisfying nearly every curiosity. Dovercourt
offers the most amazing variety of Summer Day Camp
programs in the Ottawa area, providing lots to choose from
for campers age 4-16.
This year we’ve expanded our lineup of sports camps, now
offering Cricket, Ultimate Frisbee, and Parkour, while of
course keeping all of our most popular sports programs like
Scootering, Skateboarding, and Acrobatic Jump Rope.
For 2017, we have given our Youth Zone program an overhaul
and are very excited about our new Chill and Thrill streams of
youth programs. Designed exclusively for the 10-13yr old age
group and continuing the theme of inclusion and teamwork,
we now offer a choice of two programs each week; one that
is very “chill”, and one that offers more “thrill”.
At the Bluesfest School of Music and Art, our campers will
spend at least five hours each day with our specialty instructors
who offer years of experience and knowledge in the industry.
Once again this year, we’ll provide experiences that no other
program can offer, including camper performances at RBC
Bluesfest and CityFolk.
In our theme camp stream, we are excited to introduce
three weeks of French Immersion theme camps, in which
all communication between staff and campers will be in
French. This will provide an excellent opportunity for
kids to enjoy our popular theme camp activities, while
brushing up on their French conversation skills before
heading back to school.
Finally, based on overwhelming popularity, we have
expanded our Junior Overnight programs for 8-10yr olds
now offering three weeks to choose from. In this program,
8, 9 and 10 year olds are invited to spend 3 days and 2
nights with us at the OCDSB’s MacSkimming Outdoor
Education Centre, while older campers will have an
extended stay of 4 days and 3 nights.
We look forward to seeing you this summer. If you are
new to Dovercourt camps, please feel free to come and
visit us in person or give us a call. We are always happy
to help you select camps to suit your interests and to
address any questions or concerns you may have. Be sure
to download your copy of our Parent Handbook, available
online.
CAMP ACTIVITY LOCATIONS &
TRANSPORTATION
The day always starts and finishes at
Our programs take advantage of many
outdoor spaces including local parks,
elementary and high school facilities
within walking distance, and City
facilities, outdoor spaces, and beaches.
Transportation is done by foot where
possible, according to the school board
guidelines for walking distance, and
based on age. For activities that take
place farther away, campers will be
using chartered school buses as well as
OCTranspo where appropriate based on
the group size and age of the campers.
DAILY SCHEDULE
Camp activities are from 9am to 4pm.
For activities that take place off-site, most
camp groups leave the park by 9:15am.
Drop off takes place between 8:30-9am.
Pick up is between 4-4:30pm.
SPECIAL NEEDS & EXTRA SUPPORT
Dovercourt is strongly committed to
the inclusion of all campers. Please
take the time to make us aware of any
medical, behavioural, or cognitive
issues your child may have, at the time
of registration. This might include social
anxieties, communication barriers, or the
tendency to run or wander away from
the group. Making us aware early on will
ensure that our Inclusion Coordinators
can help arrange for any additional
supports or accommodations to make
sure that your child has the best possible
experience in camp. For questions or
to discuss your child’s participation in
camp, or arrange a meeting with our
Inclusion staff, please contact us at
inclusion@dovercourt.org
CAMP SWIMS
Camp swims are incorporated into
many of our program plans and
appropriate staff-to-camper ratios are
maintained during all camp swims.
Campers younger than 6 years old
must wear a personal flotation device
(provided by us) and remain in the
shallow pool and the ramp area.
Campers who are 6 years old and older
will be allowed in the shallow part of
the pool, and those who pass a swim
test will be permitted in the deep end.
Most camp groups will not be
swimming every day, so please refer
to your camp’s newsletter for specific
swim days.
Please note that our indoor pool is
closed from August 28 for annual
maintenance. Many camps will make
use of our outdoor wading pools during
the last week of camp.
