CulinarY Arts 5-12yrs $272 Get creative and learn all about what it takes to put together a restaurant quality dish. Spend lots of time in the kitchen learning from the best in the business, visiting local restaurants, and learning from local restaurant owners. Most of the week is spent in the kitchen, then balanced out with outdoor play, group games, crafts, and swimming. Visual Arts Try something new and develop your creative talents in a fun and friendly environment. Art programs provide hours of specialized instruction each day with our talented staff and special guest instructors. The rest of the week is balanced with outdoor play, group games, and swimming. Art Start 4-5yrs $262 This program for our youngest artists provides an introduction to a variety of techniques and materials including paint, pencil crayon, papier mache, clay, and fabric. Art Mix 5-9yrs $244 Try different types of art in a fun and creative way. Artists will benefit from specialized instruction and by using their imagination and creativity with our talented staff. Try a variety of media including paint, fabric, clay and more. Extreme Art 6-10yrs $244 Ordinary art projects take an exciting twist in this unique art program including murals, graffiti, glass blowing and more. Fashion Design 8-10yrs $244 Set the trend for your latest fashion line and strut your stuff with a special runway show. Learn the basics of knitting and sewing, and add your own flare with fabric dyeing and decorating. Jewelry Making 7-9yrs $244 Learn about different types of jewelry design and work on your own line of accessories using a variety of techniques and materials including leather, wire, and clay beads. 2 2017 day camps – dovercourt.org Drawing 5-9yrs $294 In partnership with Young Rembrandts, based on an acclaimed, step-by-step drawing method that works hand-in-hand with an original, innovative art curriculum developed by a team of educators and artists. With a child-centered approach and relevant subject matter, these programs use a multisensory approach to learning for each child to learn and grow. Pottery 4-12yrs $270 Roll up your sleeves and come play with clay. You’ll learn techniques in hand building and try out the wheel with an experienced pottery instructor. Many projects will be painted and finished to bring home on Friday, while others may be fired in the kiln and picked up a couple of weeks after camp. Performing Arts Perfect for campers who love to be in the spotlight, performing arts camps offer campers the opportunity to build confidence and work together to put on a great show at the end of the week. Work through small and large group rehearsals then take the stage for a show on Friday. Family and Friends are all invited. Band Camp Developed and directed by some of the best music teachers in Ottawa, this program offers lots of practice time in small groups and as a large group in a High School music room, a recording session, and a concert in the auditorium on Friday for family and friends. Beginner Band 9-12yrs $296 one week, $496 two weeks No experience required. Instruments are provided. Available at the Dovercourt location, or the Barrhaven location. One-week and two-week options available. Band Level 1 10-14yrs $296 This program is for students who have completed at least a full year of a band program at school. Available at the Dovercourt location, or the Barrhaven location. Band Level 2 10-15yrs $296 This program is for students who have completed at least two full years of a band program at school and are playing at a level 200 or 300. Available only at the Dovercourt location. Dance 4-5yrs $259 | 5-9yrs $239 Work with our talented dance instructors to learn the latest moves in jazz, ballet, contemporary and hip hop. You’ll become a choreographer and performer as you prepare for the recital on Friday. All levels of experience are welcome. Photography 9-12yrs $300 Learn about lights, shadows and colour while practicing basic digital photography techniques with professional photographer and teacher Ralph Plath. Each day brings new concepts including camera functions, composition, perspective and use of light. Create your own portfolio, photo frame and collage to take home along with all of your photographs on a disc. All equipment is provided.
Magic 6-9yrs $294 This unique program is designed by Eric Leclerc, two time magic champion and star of YTV’s “Tricked”, and delivered by his team of professional magicians and entertainers. Have a blast and be blown away while developing self-confidence and a passion for entertaining. Each camper will receive their own magic kit with everything they need to wow their parents and friends. Drama 6-10yrs $239 Learn lead and supporting roles and all about set and costume design. Days are spent playing acting games and working together to prepare a live theatre production for family and friends in the auditorium on Friday. Circus 6-9yrs $296 Spend the week with Nick Miller learning all about how to become a circus performer. Learn the basics of juggling, diabolo and prop manipulation then test your balancing skills with rolo bolo, unicycling and walking on stilts. Buskers 9-13yrs $296 Get an exclusive, up-close look at the life of a professional busker with Nick Miller, an international busking performer and award winning performer and teacher. Learn all about mastering the art of entertaining and captivating an audience while learning fundamental skills like juggling, magic, balancing, bucket drumming, and comedy, then take your skills to the street. You’ll spend two days at the Ottawa International Busker Festival practicing and performing at the circus tent, and enjoying a front row seat for some of the best professional entertainment acts. Campers will develop technical and musical skills; define their image and build confidence for their big performance. Each day starts and ends at Dovercourt while most lessons and activities take place at Festival House, just a short walk from the Centre. New in 2017, each day will include at least five hours of specialized instruction! Ukulele Band 9-13yrs $337 Join up with some ukulele playing friends this summer at BSOMA. You and your new band mates will develop a set list of songs made famous by some of the headliners coming to the 2017 CityFolk. We will bring the band back together for a rehearsal in advance of your big performance at CityFolk in September. Mornings will be spent with our Ukulele Band coaches, and the afternoons will be spent creating digital media to play alongside your performances. Beats & Bass DJ 12-16yrs $337 Learn the ins and outs of DJ equipment, programs, beat-matching, mixing and the basics of scratching. Learn tricks of the trade like how to organize your music collection and how to market yourself for your first live gig. In addition to learning the DJ craft, campers will prepare digital media to play in conjunction with their sets at RBC Bluesfest in July. Rock University 12-16yrs $337 Local professional musicians will work with current and potential band mates to prepare for an on-stage performance at CityFolk in September. Young musicians will establish and define their style, refine their talent, build stage confidence and master 3-4 songs to perform. Band mates will reunite in early September for a dress rehearsal in advance of the big performance at the CityFolk. This summer, there will be more time dedicated to becoming a well-rounded musician with afternoon songwriting workshops, additional jam time, and vocal training. We will be accepting a limited number of guitarists, bass guitarists, pianists, drummers, and vocalists each week, each of whom must have the ability to play/sing 3 songs fluently. RBC Bluesfest Rock University 12-16yrs $337 This special edition of Rock University takes place during RBC Bluesfest, and there will be exclusive opportunities for our participants. This unique opportunity offers current and potential band mates to work with local professional musicians to prepare for an on-stage performance at RBC Bluesfest. With more time dedicated to becoming a well-rounded musician, rehearsals will be balanced with songwriting workshops, extra jam time, and vocal training. We will be accepting a limited number of guitarists, bass guitarists, pianists, drummers, and vocalists each week, each of whom must have the ability to play/sing 3 songs fluently. Musical Theatre 8-11yrs $337 Be a triple threat on the stage! In this camp you will learn to sing, dance and act. In the morning, you will work with our Musical Theatre staff to develop skills and in the afternoons, you and your fellow campers will work on props, set design and creating the full experience for the audience. This course will end with a performance for friends and family on the BSOMA stage. BSOMA Singing Camp 6-11yrs $337 While fully engaged in popular songs, campers will develop technique, tone, harmonies and phrasing with one of BSOMA’s year round vocal coaches. Your grand performance will take place on the BSOMA stage on the Friday of camp, in front of friends and family. University summer is on 3
