ULAB’s 4th convocation held
The University of Liberal Arts
Bangladesh (ULAB) held its
fourth convocation yesterday at
the Bangabandhu International
Conference Centre (BICC),
Dhaka. Minister for Education,
Nurul Islam Nahid, declared
the opening of the Convocation
2016 on behalf of the Chancellor
while the convocation speech
was delivered by eminent human
rights activist, Advocate Sultana
Kamal. Professor Abdul Mannan,
Chairman, University Grants
Commission of Bangladesh was
present as special guest.
Addressing the graduating
students, Education Minister
Nurul Islam Nahid urged them
to use their education to become
real assets of the country. “The
progress of our nation depends
on your future activities,” he said,
adding, “you have to be world
class citizens using your talents
and skills.”
UGC Chairman Professor
Abdul Mannan underscored the
need to be historically conscious
of the sacrifices made by our
freedom fighters and dedicate
ourselves to the development of
the country.
In her convocation speech,
Advocate Sultana Kamal
highlighted the ethos of liberal
humanism and requested the
students to devote themselves
in protecting human dignity
and rights. She also asked the
students to be tolerant in a
world that is becoming very
divisive.
ULAB Acting Vice Chancellor
Professor Imran Rahman
delivered the welcome speech
and led the convocation
ceremony.
Vice President of the
ULAB Board of Trustees Dr
Kazi Anis Ahmed maintained
that education should be a
combination of rationalism and
imagination.
A message from the Founder &
Chaiman Kazi Shahid Ahmed was
also read out during the event.
The theme for ULAB’s
convocation this year, was
“Journey towards Excellence.”

connection between liberal
arts education and human
excellence. Around 1,325
graduates from undergraduate
(1,031) and graduate (294)
programs received their
certificates this year.
The honour of being named
this year’s valedictorian went
to Hosneara Yeasmin Eti from
the English and Humanities
Department, as well as being
the recipient of the Gold Medal
from the Graduate Programs.
The other Gold Medalist from
the Undergraduate Programs was
Azharul Alam. •

Abdul Muhith, inaugurated 10
new branches of Mercantile Bank

across the country, through video
conference at an event yesterday,
at The Westin, Dhaka. Fazle
Kabir, Governor of Bangladesh
Bank was present as special
guest on the occasion while the
Bank Chairman, Shahidul Ahsan,
presided over the grand ceremony.

Role Reversal Program at Le Méridien Dhaka
Le Méridien Dhaka initiated a day
long Role Reversal Program with
their associates on December 19.
The Role Reversal is an initiative
of Le Méridien Dhaka, where high
performing associates are selected
to perform senior management
roles for a full working day, while
the senior management takes on
entry level positions.
The day long program
was celebrated with top level
management playing the roles
of doorman, bellman, steward,
waiter, public area attendant
and assistant technicians, while,
the associates played the role
of General Manager, Director of
Sales and Marketing, Director of
Food and Beverage, Executive
Housekeeper, Director of Human
Resource and various other
managerial roles.
On this occasion, the General
Manager of Le Méridien Dhaka,
Ashwani Nayar who was the
doorman for the day, stated,
“The Role Reversal Program is a
learning and motivational program
were management relives the
life of their earlier experiences
and also learn to blend in with
the recent generations. On the
other hand this program offers
an aspirational goal to associates
as they learn to appreciate the
responsibility attached with senior
positions in the organisation.”
Meanwhile, the Director of Human
Resource, Arman Huda who was
a waiter for the day, said, “The
program created a happy working
environment among the associates
at all levels and great bonding by
recognising the efforts of those
associates who work at the root
level.”
The management of Le
Méridien Dhaka hopes to build
great future leaders, who will
revive their future aspirational
managerial roles by taking top
positions and process towards
becoming strategical decision
makers. •
