Now that Delray Beach is a rising star in the art, culture and social
scene, it might seem a little difficult to find affordable activities, shops
or restaurants. I am here to prove you wrong. Delray Beach offers a mix
of high-end boutiques with laid-back restaurants, and events for the
whole family or nightclubs for night owls. Here is what you can do in
Delray Beach in January for $50 or less.
Creativity feeds the soul and there’s
a pretty good chance that your
daily habits don’t do a lot to get
the juices flowing. The New Year is a
great time to regroup and focus on more
of what makes you happy, and if that includes
thinking outside the box, you’re in
luck. January is International Creativity
Month and you’re invited to attend the
28th Annual Downtown Delray Beach
Festival of the Arts. Held January 21 and
22, this art festival is a great way to enjoy
the outdoors, get together with friends,
and either pick up a few pieces for your
home or soak up the artistic aura of the
vendors for your own creative pleasure.
This juried art festival of hand-crafted
artwork includes glass, photography,
painting, mixed media, fiber, jewelry and
much more from hundreds of vendors.
As if it could get any better, the festival
is held from Federal Highway to A1A, so
enjoy strolling along the palm-tree lined
Avenue and taking some well needed pitstops
in the restaurants for a cool cocktail.
The Festival of the Arts is held 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. both days so that leaves you
plenty of green for filling up the creativity
bank. Visit www.artfestival.com or call
(561) 746-6615 for more information.
It’s the beginning of the year, which
means it’s the perfect time to create
your plan of attack for 2017. Whatever
you’re devising, make sure it includes
a nice balance between work and play,
and future goals and present enjoyment.
January is Get a Balanced Life Month so
gather the friends because you’ve
got a painting party to get
to. Vino Van Gogh offers
guests a relaxed, social,
group setting
in which to receive
step-by-step directions
for painting
a unique art
piece. You literally
don’t have to
worry about anything
because you
will be provided a
canvas, brushes, paints,
easels and an apron, and
are guaranteed to leave the class
with a one-of-a-kind piece of art (or at
least something with which to decorate
your garage) and the satisfaction of having
a really fun time with the pals. You
are welcome to bring your own snacks
and wine, or you can purchase champagne,
wine and beer, so all signs point
to a fabulously balanced night out. Class
prices range from $25-$40 depending on
the night and the painting, so put on your
beret because you have a masterpiece to
create. Vino Van Gogh is located at 153
Loving yourself comes in a myriad
of actions, thoughts and beliefs, but
it all boils down to appreciating
yourself and knowing you’re worth it. Especially
now with the pressure to make
this next year the best year, pay attention
to your mind and body. One way to do
that is to love the skin you’re in, and, also
important, to love how you adorn it. January
is Self-Love Month and is also home
to the Delray Beach Fashion Week, where
you’ll have a chance to enjoy a week of
fashion, style and sophistication. Held
January 25 through 29, there are different
events each day that focus on a different
part of fashion. January 25 is “An
Evening Downtown” kick-off event at The
Colony Hotel featuring eveningwear and
a hair showcase by downtown boutiques
and hair salons. January 26 features a
“Delray on the Runway” designer show
and a “Tropical Paradise” on January 27
that features a resort-wear fashion show
