Cloudy2Clear Announce
Trusted Trader Partnership
Consumer champions
Which? have now
joined the thousands of
customers who recognise
that Cloudy2Clear
Windows really are a
business that you can
TRUST. The company
which specialises in
repairing windows which
are steamed up, broken
or damaged by replacing
the panes – not the frames
has received the coveted
‘Which Trusted Trader’
status after going through
a rigorous accreditation
process entirely focussed
on customer service.
Group Managing
Director Marcus McGee
believes that Which? have
endorsed Cloudy2Clear’s
long standing company
policy of delivering the
highest standards possible
at all times. ‘Our service
is simple. If your double
glazing has misted up we
can replace the glass at a
fraction of the cost of a
new window, in any type
of frame, and with a new
25 year guarantee. But
it’s not just about saving
people money, although
that obviously helps. Whilst
a number of tradespeople
perhaps don’t focus on
customer care as much as
they should do, we make
sure we turn up when we
say we will, do the job the
customer requires and leave
their house as clean as a
whistle.
Locally Cloudy2Clear
service Billericay,

Hutton Mount, Ingatestone,
Ingrave & Herongate and
manager Chris Miller
agrees that this approach
is a major factor in his
success. ‘The truth is that
it’s not just the personal
satisfaction that I get from
doing a good job but also it
makes good business sense.
I get a huge amount of
business from friends and
family of people I’ve done
work for, which just goes
to show how much a little
bit of effort is appreciated
as both my customers
and, obviously a body as
nationally important as
Which? now recognise.’
SOLICITORS
Mr Brian Hughes
MBE continues to
work at the helm
of Rainer Hughes
serving individuals
and businesses
throughout Essex.
Rainer Hughes Solicitors are key players in
the Shenfield Community. They have been so
since 1996 when the practice first traded as
Hughes & Co. Brian Hughes, MBE, the founder
of the practice, had been closely involved in
Shenfield since 1968 and, partly as a result of
his previous involvement, the practice has
gone from strength to strength, becoming
the dominant legal force for local residents.
Rainer Hughes property department
(focussing on residential conveyancing and
commercial property) is thriving; it receives
instructions not only from local residents but
also businesses who trust Rainer Hughes to
‘get the job done’ properly.
Edward Bliss a property solicitor at Rainer
Hughes explains “Shenfield and the
surrounding areas represent a very active
market. With the advent of Crossrail we
expect further growth and opportunities for
our clients”. Rainer Hughes is also in the
enviable position of being able to “give back”
to the Community, supporting charities such
as Age UK and Save the Children.
Whilst Rainer Hughes may appear to be a
“High Street” firm, it has a not so well-kept
secret; it also operates a boutique litigation
department that has worldwide clients
ranging from global companies and high net
worth individuals to Sovereign States. It is
also currently instructed on a well-publicised
matter of worldwide importance,
representing a client in the European Court of
Human Rights.
As a consequence of Rainer Hughes’ highly
regarded commitment to achieving the best
results for its clients, it has been recognised
as a Legal 500 firm and has achieved the
Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme
and Lexcel quality benchmarks.
To top this, Rainer Hughes was recently
recognised nationally by winning the
Corporate International Magazine award as
best specialist boutique VAT Law firm in
England and Wales. Quite some achievement!
Senior Partner, Sanjay Panesar, commented
that “this really does cement our position as
one of the markets leading law firms. It is a
big year for us and we are, as always, entirely
committed to the highest level of service we
can offer our clients”.
So, whatever your legal needs, Rainer Hughes
is here for you. Your local worldwide solicitors.
Rules of Etiquette
The right and wrongs of good social behaviour
The English have a history of appropriate social
behaviour which is renowned across the world,
The word etiquette originates from the French
in 1750. The modern understanding of the
word can be linked to the Court of the French
King Louis XIV, who used small cards called
etiquettes, as a reminder to courtiers of
accepted ‘house rules’ and how to behave
properly at court. Rules of etiquette are usually
unwritten and passed down from generation to
generation, although in days gone by it was
common for young ladies to attend a finishing
school to ensure their manners were up to
scratch. An attribute which was felt particularly
crucial in securing a suitable husband! Whilst
today good manners and etiquette are seen as
a sign of respect, particularly to those more
senior (in either age or position), in Victorian
England when the class system was alive and
well, etiquette was often used as a social
weapon in the interests of social advancement
or exclusion.
The RSVP
RSVP is an acronym of the French phrase,
"Respondez s'il vous plait," or "Respond, if you
please." When your receive an invitation to any
social engagement you should always reply as
soon as possible. This allows the host to
accommodate all guests in regards to food,
drink, seating and give some idea of the
amount of people attending. Never leave it too
late to reply and if you loose the invitation to
RSVP to, try to get in contact in other ways so
they know if you’re attending or not.
Place Settings
Setting a table is not as difficult as it seems.
The basic rule is: Utensils are placed in the
order of use; that is, from the outside in. A
60

second rule, with only a few exceptions, is:
Forks go to the left of the plate, and knives and
spoons go to the right. And finally, only set the
table with utensils you will
use. No soup; no soup
spoon. It is polite to wait
until your hostess is seated
before you start eating.
Thank-You Cards
Sending out a thank you
card is a great way to
reinforce your gratitude. Maybe someone has
helped out with a problem or just simply been
there when you needed them. It’s not always
possible to say thank you for a gift straight
away, especially birthdays and Christmas. Make
When you receive an
invitation to any social
engagement you
should always reply as
soon as possible.
a message that your time is more important
than theirs. If you are delayed, be sure to
inform the person you are meeting.
Introductions
This is another rule of
etiquette that seems to
cause social anxiety.
Knowing how to introduce
yourself or how to
introduce others puts you
and others at social ease.
One rule is to introduce the 'less-important' to
the 'more-important'. This means, bring the
intern to meet your boss, the younger to older
and the more familiar to the less familiar
(between friends).
a list of who bought what and then you can
send out thank-you cards after.
Handshakes
Make sure your handshake leaves a good
lasting impression rather than a memory
they’d rather forget. A handshake shouldn’t be
too hard or too light, a good handshake is firm
but not overpowering.
Punctuality
Punctuality is a simple way to show courtesy
and respect for others and requires planning
ahead. By allowing people to wait for you, gives
Mobile Phones
Mobile phones at the table are considered very
rude, if a call is not important don’t answer it.
If you’re awaiting an important phone call
switch your phone to silent and excuse yourself
to take the call away from the table.
And finally...Treat every person you meet with
the same amount of respect, regardless of
where the person works. The days of courtesy
being a product of the recipient's station in life
are long gone. Everyone deserves courtesy and
respect for doing his or her job; there is no
dishonorable work.
Planning your Wedding
or Honeymoon abroad
with The Travel Boutique
We are now in the most romantic months of
the year, with Christmas Day and New Years
Eve some of the most popular dates to get down
on one knee! Followed closely by Valentines Day
which is also just around the corner, I thought it
more than apt to talk about the romantic side of
travel, weddings and honeymoons.
Decisions of where to tie the knot and knowing
that you are embarking on the planning of one of
the most important days of your life your dream
wedding day and also your honeymoon can be
somewhat daunting.
Firstly if this applies to you Congratulations! Now
comes the fun part! You may have your heart set
on a favourite destination, or need inspiration and
advice as to what best will suit the two of you and
also if you have family and friends and particularly
children. With our destination wedding and
honeymoon team at The Travel Boutique this all
comes very naturally to us, not only that we are
romantics at heart but we have a wealth of
knowledge and experience organising and planning
weddings and honeymoons overseas. I myself
having lived in Greece & Cyprus for many years
have a huge understanding of what is required to
plan your wedding abroad. And more so that
planning a wedding abroad doesn’t mean that it
isn’t unique to you !
There are certain destinations where it’s much
easier to get married than others. This is usually
due to residency requirements. As a result, there
are many more couples each year that would like
to say ‘I do’ with the guaranteed warmth and
sunshine too.
So where are the best and easiest destinations to
marry, where the residency requirement is between
1 and 7 days and the paperwork is much more
simple than others, Greece, Cyprus, Mauritius,
Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Southern Africa, Bali, Thailand,
Caribbean, USA (New York, Las Vegas, Florida and
Hawaii), Canada, & Australia.
Whether you would like to tie the knot on an
exotic beach, have a religious ceremony or say I do
in a local vineyard we have many exciting
destinations and locations where we can tailormake
your day. Our specialist weddings and
honeymoon team are on hand to hold your hand
every step of the way, advise and guide you. We are
particularly good when looking at the Caribbean,
Greece, Cyprus, Italy and the Indian Ocean,
however we have personally attended and
arranged weddings in USA, Canada, Australia, India
and Asia too.
Or maybe you are having your wedding in the UK
and now thinking about your honeymoon - romantic
days lazing on a white sandy beach, balmy evenings
sipping champagne and cocktails or maybe
discovering new and wonderful destinations together,
just the two of you on a honeymoon tailored just for
you to places you have only dreamed. But that all
seems a little too much to begin planning alongside
all your wedding arrangements too. At The Travel
Boutique we are also on hand to help and take the
stresses out of planning your honeymoon dream and
getting it just right!
Whatever it is that you need when romance is in
the air, call us at The Travel Boutique and we will
help you plan every step of the way.
Planning your perfect wedding or honeymoon or
maybe that something very special is only just a
phone call away. We look forward to hearing from
you soon!
THE READING ROOMS
The Reading Rooms
were founded in 1864 by
a group of local
businessmen and
shopkeepers, as a
literary institution to
help educate the
working classes.
Periodicals, newspapers
and books were
purchased and placed in
the rooms for perusal by
all. In the 1860s
newspapers ranged from
1d (one old penny) per
issue, however with a labourer earning
£36.04d, policeman £53.94d, per year, one
old penny was a huge amount of money.
The current building was built in 1886 by
public subscription. In the 1930s, the Rooms
were mainly for recreation, with a billiard
hall, darts and similar pastimes. The
Billericay Rotary Club in 1961 reported that,
the Rooms should be more widely available
for the benefit of Billericay residents.
A new enthusiastic committee was formed
consisting of local professional people and
other interested residents and
organisations. In 1965 the Rooms were
registered as a charity, and following grants
a kitchen, toilets and storeroom were
installed. In 2005 a further major grant was
received from Essex Environment Trust to
upgrade the 19th century building yet
again, but retaining as much as possible of
the original features.
Over the last few years the trustees have
built up a close involvement with 4 local
junior schools and
with their
involvement, a
successful
exhibition was held
in the Rooms to
celebrate the 150th
anniversary in 2014.
In 2015 with a further exhibition,
commemorating the involvement of
Billericay people in WW1. In 2016 the same
schools helped design a logo for the Rooms.
The current management committee is still
made up of local people, organisations and
fund raising groups, who are dedicated to
keeping the Rooms open and available for
local residents of Billericay to use and enjoy.
The main hall, kitchen and committee room
are now used by a wide variety of people
and organisations.
