Spring renewal?
In Ireland the 1st February is regarded as the first day
of spring but I don’t think we would be that optimistic.
However, we will notice the days drawing out and the
appearance of the crocuses and the snowdrops will give
us a feeling that spring is perhaps not too far away.
Snowdrop Sunday at Hackthorn Hall is always a special
event so why not pop along on Sunday 12th February for
a spectacular show (see ad on page 33).
Our Village Notice Board on page 1 is filling up with
future events. One very interesting item on the board is
the Voices of the Great War. This will be in the library
from 1st to 14th February (see article on page 50) and is
an exhibition of personal war experiences of Lincolnshire
people.
Keeping with the topic of the library, it is worrying that,
with only months to go before the lease on the current
premises runs out, there is still no definite home for a
relocated library (see article on page 30). Input from the
parish council’s questionnaire (I hope residents completed
and submitted it by 31st January) may provide some
ideas to the council. An obvious home for the library is
the village hall with its central location, car parking and
adjacent bus stop. It does seem strange that more urgent
and detailed discussions on this solution do not appear to
have taken place.
The government’s consultation on press regulation
finished on 10th January and now we have to wait to
find out what it intends to do. We are disappointed to tell
our readers that our MP, Sir Edward Leigh, never did get
back to us on our letter asking for assistance on the matter
despite a further letter requesting a response.
