Like any professional service, you want the best person for the job - someone who you can easily talk to and someone who is good at doing their job. Good Debt Counsellor Displays their NCR issued Debt Counsellor Registration Certificate Has a physical office you can visit Does not ask for money up front Does not make unrealistic promises Takes time to advise you on your monthly budgeting Explains the process in detail Provides you with material on the process to help you understand & remember Balances the needs of the consumer with credit providers
You particularly want someone who is trustworthy and legitimate. A lot of dodgy firms out there tell you they can help with your debt through what they call ‘mediation’. The problem is that mediation offers no legal protection unlike debt review. Be careful of these debt mediators and any firm who tries to offer you another loan or offers to use credit to ‘consolidate’ your debt.
