MERCY IS AN INVITATION

Iam glad to pen my reflection
on 'Mercy' as the school has
taken the theme for the year book, 2015-2016-
'MERCY'. A merciful person is sensitive, and full of
compassionate feelings. The word 'mercy' is directly
related to one's inner kindness and respectful behaviour
that he/she inculcates from daily events. It is said,
'Mercy' is an invitation-an invitation to love, kindness,
and infinite generosity. This theory guides us to
encounter the incredible mercy of God that helps us to
transform our life, our relationships, our work, and our
ability to embrace and experience all of life. Pope
Francis said, "Beautiful Mercy provides an encounter
with the heart of God". If we focus on the word 'Mercy',
it immediately inspires us to realize that extraordinary
acts of love are possible for us all-no matter where we
are in life. Receiving mercy and being merciful towards
others are co-related to works of mercy. The works of
mercy are also charitable actions by which we come to
the aid of our neighbors in their hour of need.
This is for students to learn that, there are two types of
'works of mercy' - corporal and spiritual. The following
examples of works of mercy are our daily toils and we all
can be encouraged to practice them in our daily life -
Feed the hungry, Give drink to the thirsty, Visit the sick,
free the captive, Bury the dead, Instruct the ignorant, Counsel the doubtful,
Admonish sinners, Bear wrongs patiently, Forgive offenses willingly, Comfort
the afflicted, Pray for the living and the dead and above all, love one another.
SFX Greenherald School has the 'Charity Club' in which a group of
teachers/staff do a lot of charitable works under the supervision of the Principal
Sr. Virginia Asha Gomes, and myself as the Club Coordinator, along with other
sisters in the school. Of course our parents are giving us a big support to organize
the charitable activities, particularly during the Meena Bazaar. The theme of the
year book 'Mercy' is inviting all our parents, students and teachers to stretch their
helping hands with kind and generous hearts where necessary. I do appreciate
and thank the school
authority for choosing the
meaningful theme -'Mercy'
for the Year Book, 2015-
2016. Let us be merciful
and kind to the people in
our world who are hungry,
thirsty, naked, persecuted,
homeless, lonely, jobless,
afflicted and desperately
need our touch, our love
and concern. May God
Almighty bless our
generosity abundantly.
