OMED’s mission is to promote highquality
endoscopy throughout the world.
Our aims are to encourage the study
and practice of digestive endoscopy, to
establish high standards of performance
and training, and to organize workshops
in endoscopy-related topics either on our
own or in conjunction with other societies.

WoRksHoPs
One effective way to improve and standardize
practice is to ensure that those responsible
for the management of endoscopy
have the necessary knowledge and
skills to provide a safe and effective service.
This was the stimulus for OMED to set up
the OMED Endoscopy Directors’ Workshops
which are organized jointly with
a national or regional society. Utilizing a
combined faculty, we cover the essentials
of endoscopy management. The meetings
are small (40 to 80 participants) and informal,
active participation with the audience
is encouraged.

enDoscoPY coURses
Rapid advances in technology have provided
endoscopists with sophisticated
equipment that is not always used to its
best advantage. We have therefore taken
a practical initiative by setting up a series
of OMED Advanced Diagnostic Endoscopy
Courses that teach the general endoscopist
how to use modern equipment
and gain the most from it. These courses
cover recent technical advances, focusing
on narrow band imaging, high definition
and fluorescence endoscopy. Courses
have been held in Delhi (India), Dubai
(UAE), Cairo (Egypt), and Taipei (Taiwan).

OMED is proud to be closely associated
with an elite group of seventeen
endoscopic centers that have established
outstanding reputations for delivering
international education in the field of
digestive endoscopy. The OMED Centers
of Excellence make an important contribution
to endoscopic education worldwide.
We are grateful to the colleagues in
charge of these units and to those who
work in them for the support that they
have given to OMED not only in teaching
but also by contributing to meetings and
workshops and by assisting with our publications
on clinical practice.
