InTRoDUcTIon
The Young Clinicians Programme (YCP) represents
an important educational aspect of
GASTRO 2009 UEGW/WCOG, London and
combines the unique YCP concept as presented
during previous World Congresses of
Gastroenterology with the highly successful
Summer School Course of ASNEMGE, which
represents the European National Societies
of Gastroenterology. The YCP programme
commences two days prior to the main
meeting and will continue throughout the
core meeting bringing together 90 Trainees
from 51 countries (60 international and 30
from the United Kingdom).
Successful Trainee Gastroenterologists
were nominated by their National Societies
and then selected by the YCP Organising
Committee as ‘high-flyers’ and clearly
represent future opinion leaders in their
respective Countries: Albania, Argentina,
Australia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Costa
Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Ecuador,
Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Germany, India,
Indonesia, Iraq, Ireland, Japan, Latvia, Malaysia,
Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, Netherlands,
Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines,
Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Saudi
Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan,
Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United
Arab Emirates, Ukraine, United Kingdom,
Uruguay, United States, Vietnam, Zambia.
We are honoured to have an enthusiastic
Faculty with extensive experience. We
are also delighted that several prominent
UK GI Units have offered to host international
YCP trainees, either prior to or after
GASTRO 2009 UEGW/WCOG, London. We
