United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEGF)<br />

The United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEGF) is a pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

medical non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organisation comprising all <strong>of</strong> the major European societies<br />

with an interest in disease <strong>of</strong> the digestive system, including the<br />

oesophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, intestine and bowel.<br />

The European societies that make up the Federation include medicine,<br />

surgery, paediatrics and endoscopy. UEGF is the most comprehensive<br />

organisation <strong>of</strong> this kind in the world and the affiliated societies represent<br />

over 22,000 European specialists.<br />

World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO)<br />

WGO is a federation <strong>of</strong> over 100 national and regional gastroenterology<br />

societies, representing over 50,000 gastroenterologists. Its mission is to<br />

promote, to the general public and healthcare pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, an awareness<br />

<strong>of</strong> the worldwide prevalence and optimal care <strong>of</strong> digestive disorders<br />

through the provision <strong>of</strong> high quality, accessible and independent<br />

education and training.<br />

WGO educational initiatives include international Training Centers,<br />

Train-the-Trainer programmes, World Digestive Health Day and a Global<br />

Guidelines Library.<br />

World Organisation <strong>of</strong> Digestive Endoscopy (OMED)<br />

The World Organisation <strong>of</strong> Digestive Endoscopy (Organisation Mondiale<br />

d’Endoscopie Digestive), OMED, is a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it world federation <strong>of</strong><br />

national digestive endoscopy societies. Member societies are affiliated<br />

to and represented by three geographical zones: Asian-Pacific (APSDE),<br />

European/ Mediterranean (ESGE) and Inter-American (SIED). Societies<br />

falling outside these zones are independent members.<br />

Through the support <strong>of</strong> the geographic zones, member societies and<br />

industry partners, OMED’s mission is the worldwide promotion <strong>of</strong> the<br />

study and advancement <strong>of</strong> digestive endoscopy.<br />

British Society <strong>of</strong> Gastroenterology (BSG)<br />

The British Society <strong>of</strong> Gastroenterology (BSG) exists to maintain and<br />

promote high standards <strong>of</strong> patient care in gastroenterology and to enhance<br />

the capacity <strong>of</strong> its members to discover and apply new knowledge<br />

to benefit patients with digestive disorders.<br />

Founded in 1937, the BSG has over three thousand members drawn<br />

from the ranks <strong>of</strong> physicians, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, scientists,<br />

nurses, dietitians, and others.<br />
