SERVING OUR COMMUNITY Ed Bradley CLINTON FIRE DEPARTMENT Why did you decide to become a fireman? I decided to become a fireman as a result of my father-in-law, Dan Peacock who had been a fireman with the City of Jackson Fire Department and the Flowood Fire Department. He was a great influence in my life and was instrumental in me starting my career as a fireman with the City of Clinton. How long have you been with your current fire department? I have been with the Clinton Fire Department 28 years. What do you enjoymost about your typical day as a fireman? I enjoy the fellowship and friendships that I have established with my co-workers over the past 28 years. The firemen on my shift are like a second family and the fire station is like a “second home”. One of the things I (we) most enjoy when the daily work tasks are done at the station is cooking on the grill. What is the toughest thing you have experienced as a fireman? Responding to emergency calls where young children are involved. It hits close to your heart like nothing else. Tell us about your family. I’ve been married to Tanya (Peacock) Bradley for 32 years. We have two daughters, Madison who is a junior at Clinton High School and Brooke Hanna, son-in-law Cory Hanna and three grandchildren, Bradley (age 4), Kanon (age 2) and Kylar (five months). Share some things that you enjoy in your spare time. I enjoy spending time with grandchildren, watching Madison play volleyball for the Clinton Lady Arrows volleyball team, playing a round of golf every now and then, and hunting during deer season. What are three things on your bucket list? Take my grandchildren to Disneyland, retire and work just one job instead of two jobs as I have done for 26 years, and spend quality time with my family. Who is someone you admire and why? My dad, Eldon Bradley. He was a U.S. Marine and did two tours in Vietnam. He was a Christian father and one of the finest people one could ever meet. What is your favorite holiday and why? Definitely Christmas. I really get into the holiday spirit by decorating with Christmas trees and lights. I recall my dad and how he loved to decorate our house with lights and decorations. I attribute my enjoyment of decorating for the Christmas holiday to my dad. What is your favorite childhood memory? Accepting Christ as my Savior and being baptized as a boy. Then being inducted into the American Legion Hall of Fame for baseball and signing a baseball scholarship with Ole Miss. What is the biggest mistake you think young people make today? Failing to be respectful to adults and others. Young people who are disrespectful become adults who are disrespectful. What is most rewarding about your job? Knowing that you have helped someone that truly needed your assistance. Where do you see yourself in ten years? Hopefully retired and enjoying life with my family. 46 • Fall 2015
