Kilmacolm Flower Show
Saturday 5 September in the New Community
Centre, Kilmacolm.
Exhibitors from all gardening clubs in Renfrewshire or
Inverclyde are most welcome, also new exhibitors who
could enter the Novice classes in Flowers, or Vegetables,
or Pot Plants. Or how about a selection of garden flowers in
a vase (Class 117). The Kitchencraft for jams and homebaking
are always popular, and the artistry of the Floral Art section is challenging and
rewarding.
We are pleased to encourage entries in the Children’s classes, and look forward
to the traditional Picture Gallery from the primary school children. For a flower
show schedule, please contact Jill Russell (show secretary) on 01505 872393.
The Show opens to the public for viewing at 11am, with prizegiving at 3.30pm.
Sòlas – Bereavement Drop-In
“sòlas” the Gaelic word for comfort and consolation, and the name of a new
bereavement drop-in group for Kilmacolm and the wider area.
Arising out of a perceived need by a group of people from Kilmacolm Old Kirk it
is open to people of all faiths and none.
Those who have lost loved ones recently or some time ago will know that one of
the most difficult hurdles to overcome is to get out and about again, to face the
world as an individual, and this is a gentle way of taking that process forward.
Sòlas is here to help you to take those first steps, providing;
• a welcome and support over tea and coffee,
• a listening ear from people who understand,
• an opportunity to view audio-visual material in a group setting
which may be helpful, and, if you wish to, take part in a relaxation session.
Sòlas is a facility offering support rather than counselling, but is overseen by
people qualified in this area. It is open to anyone who has been bereaved and
would like to meet others with similar experiences in a safe and friendly place.
The group meet on the second Thursday of each month.
The next meeting in the Kidston Hall, High Street, Kilmacolm is on
Thursday 13 August between 6.30pm and 8.30pm (drop in any time).
