Carfest Returned To
St Vincent’s Hospice
On a sunny Saturday in June, St Vincent’s Hospice in Howwood welcomed over 600
visitors to their annual motoring extravaganza ‘Carfest’.
Held in the grounds of St
Vincent’s Hospice, the event
featured a host of classic,
vintage and specialist cars,
including exclusive marques
such as Ferrari and Maserati,
as well as many other vehicles
of interest.
Carfest is the brainchild of local
Health and Safety guru, Willie
Chrystal of MaxSafe Solutions.
Willie said, “I’ve always had a keen interest in cars and have always owned weird
and wonderful vehicles; the purpose of Carfest is to bring together people from
across the community and especially to get the kids involved. It’s a great way to
support the fabulous work of St Vincent’s Hospice –
and it’s a brilliant excuse to bring the car and bike
clubs together as well”.
Paisley Pipe Band Championships
Big crowds turned out for the 6th Annual Paisley Pipe Band Championships,
with thousands stopping by over the course of the day to enjoy the sound
and spectacle. Hundreds of pipers from as far afield as Northumberland,
Dunoon and Ayrshire brought a hefty splash of tartan to the town, as did
local bands from Johnstone and Kilbarchan.
The contest saw bands start off at the top of the High Street and parade
past shoppers and onlookers to the final tuning area at the Cenotaph. They
continued down to the main arena in County Square where 100s gathered to
see the bands perform before judges.
On the day, the winners were
as follows – Troon Blackrock
(Grade 4), East Kilbride (Grade
3), East Kilbride (Grade 3
MSR), Johnstone (Grade 2),
Johnstone (Grade 2 MSR).
Kate Lennon, Chief Executive of St Vincent’s
Hospice said, “Carfest 2015 raised a massive
£3500 for local patient care here in Renfrewshire.
Willie Chrystal has done a fantastic job of bringing
together a wonderful collection of cars and bikes.
We are so grateful to all the car owners and clubs
and to everyone who supported Carfest.”
“Donations are a vital part of our funding and it’s
thanks to the generosity of people like Willie that
the hospice is able to provide such special care for
people in this area.”
In addition to getting a close-up view of all these
vehicles, visitors enjoyed stalls, music from singer
Neil Sturgeon and a barbecue as well as a sale of
vintage clothes and furniture.
Every penny raised by Carfest will help St Vincent’s
Hospice to provide very special care for local people
living with life-limiting medical conditions.
