Renfrewshire ranked in top ten
in UK for quality of life
Renfrewshire Council Leader Mark Macmillan has welcomed the findings of a
survey which has named Renfrewshire as one of the ten best areas to live in
the UK.
The survey by uSwitch named Edinburgh as the best placed to live out of 138
areas in the UK. Renfrewshire was ranked joint 10th – after an amazing rise of
102 places since the last survey in 2013.
The survey analysed a range of economic, environmental, housing, employment
and educational factors.
Councillor Macmillan said: “The fact that an independent national survey has
ranked Renfrewshire so highly is further evidence of some very positive trends
and achievements.
“Renfrewshire is pioneering new approaches to the regeneration of our
traditional town centres.
“Just look at the revival of confidence in Paisley. People are coming back to live
in the town, and a vibrant events programme is boosting the local economy and
attracting tens of thousands of visitors.
“We are reviving Paisley’s outstanding architectural heritage which features the
most Grade A listed buildings of any town in Scotland apart from Edinburgh.
“Renfrewshire is also getting behind the drive to make the town UK City of
Culture 2021.
“On jobs and investment, over 800 firms have participated in the council’s
multi-million pound Invest in Renfrewshire programme which has helped over
3000 people into work.
“Youth unemployment in Renfrewshire is also below the national average.
“There’s more good economic news on the way through the £1.13billion City
Deal programme bringing jobs and investment across the West of Scotland.
“Renfrewshire will benefit through improved transport links to Glasgow Airport,
a business investment zone around the airport, and a new bridge as part of the
Renfrew Riverside development.
“Overall, there’s increasing recognition that Renfrewshire offers a combination
of strong traditional communities with a forward-thinking outlook on growing
opportunity for all.”
