Brighter Bridge of Weir
St Mary’s
Bridge of Weir
Concert
The Resurrection (Voskresenije)
Choir from St Petersburg gave a fine
performance of both sacred music
and Russian folk songs in St Mary’s
Episcopal Church Bridge of Weir on
Monday 9th November. The Choir
of eight members are each gifted
singers and professionally trained in
Russia. As an Ensemble, their voices
beautifully blended together, singing
unaccompanied, under the leadership
of their Conductor, Jurij Maruk. The
Choir is currently touring Scotland
and delighted at the warm welcome
According to the dictionary a hoe is a long-handled, hand-held instrument with
a light blade used to till soil and eradicate weeds. Some of Brighter Bridge of
Weir’s volunteers have the blisters to prove it. Who’d have thought that weeds
could grow so vigorously at this time of year? Maybe it’s been the unseasonal
warmth and the copious amounts of water!
But now it’s time to concentrate on light work. Specifically, Christmas light work.
Brighter Bridge of Weir volunteers have been popping up throughout Main
Street adding to the Community Council’s recently redeveloped display in Livery
Walk. We’ll keep you posted on our Facebook page and our website (maybe
even an occasional tweet!). After that, all that remains is to wish all readers and
residents a Merry Christmas and we’ll be back next year.
they received here. In spite of
the wet and windy weather a
lovely audience packed St Mary’s
and were treated to a most
memorable performance and
enjoyable refreshments. We hope
the Choir will return next year!
From 1659 to
1681, it was a crime to
celebrate Christmas.
Langbank Scottish Night
“Singalong and Scones”
We are holding an evening of Scottish songs and entertainment in Langbank
Church on Friday 5th February 2016.
The evening is a celebration of Scottish music, with community singing and
performances by the Langbank Singers and local musicians.
All are welcome, all ages, and included in the ticket price is a supper of Scottish
treats, including both sweet and savoury handbaked scones, clootie dumpling,
shortbread and tablet. Tickets costing £5 adult and £2 child, will be available
in early January from Church members. Signs for all the events in the village will
be posted on the new noticeboard in the Church car park.
