.....................................................
I have been raising the issue of leaf
clearing with the council. Council is
happy to fire fight the problem rather
than maintain our streets. Leaves block
the gullies causing flooding issues and
excess water damages the roads and
property. Any number of gullies are
blocked on a permanent basis. All this
undermines new resurfacing work in
the area yet the Council congratulates
themselves over the measures they
have put in place for climate change!
The ongoing flooding problems that exist on the Houston
Road in Bridge of Weir and on Station Road and Main Road,
Langbank, amongst others, is disgraceful and am pushing
to have them resolved.
The council is recruiting crossing patrollers for various
locations. Bridge of Weir Primary School is one short at
present. If interested, it is essential that you have strong
communication skills and a friendly, outgoing approach. Post
hours are 10 per week to be worked Monday – Friday, 8.15am
– 9.15am and 2.45pm – 3.45pm. See more at: https://
Did you know that it is possible that insurance companies
will bump up your premium if your neighbours get broken
into? That is why I want to encourage people to join a
Neighbourhood Watch Group. Neighbourhood Watch is
not just about reporting crime. It is about ensuring that
communities are safe. This might include such diverse
subjects as road safety, doorstep safety and internet safety.
I will be happy to help get a group started up in your area.
Please contact me.
I hope you all have a very Happy Christmas and a good New
Year.
Bridge of Weir Memorial
Society
The Bridge of Weir
Memorial Society is
holding an Open Day on
Saturday 9th January,
and inviting anyone
to come forward with
knowledge of those
who served in the Great
War, either in the armed
forces or as VADs. The
Society has researched
those who died but is
also keen to produce
a full Roll of Honour of
those who served, as
was done for Kilmacolm
in the 1920s. Society
Chairman, Gordon
Masterton, said “From
local newspapers,
service records and
internet searches we
have 140 names,
including the 72 who
were killed, but statistically there should be over 400 who served in the armed
forces from Bridge of Weir. We’d like to find them. But we need help from those
with long village memories.
