On 21st October the Ladies held their Annual Dinner at the club and the evening was enjoyed by the 40 ladies in attendance. Medal prizes were presented along with prizes for the Fun Charity competitions that were held during the summer months. On Friday 23rd October the Gents Annual Prize Giving Dinner was held. All Competition Trophies were presented by the Captain Alan Gordon. Renfrewshire L a d i e s County Golf Associations J u n i o r Secretary, A u d r e y MacKenzie, organised a visit to the club for a group of Junior girls. On Sunday 25th October 14 girls from various clubs enjoyed the facilities of the golf course and the practice ground. 5 of the older girls with handicaps played 18 holes 60 members attended and were entertained after dinner by Kenny Clark. Kenny is a local Solicitor and a former Category 1 Football Referee. while the younger developing golfers played 6 holes. They will be playing various courses over the winter months. Table Tennis Gleddoch Ladies Golf Club – End Of Season Report The ladies of Gleddoch have made the most of the good weather over the past few weeks and have had a number of great days on the course. On Friday October 23rd, Gleddoch Ladies held their annual Prizegiving Dinner. An enjoyable evening was had by all. The main prizewinners were: Winter League: June Lockhart. Medal Finals: Roisin Black. Gleddoch 2-ball : Winners: Margaret Adams and Roisin Black Runners up: Shirley Back and Isabell Donnelly. Mixed Fours: Winners: Isabell and Michael Donnelly. Runners up: Trixie Brown and Iqbal. Jagger Rosebowl: Winner: Roisin Black. Runner up: Jackie Gray. Club Champion: Shirley Back. Runner up: Roisin Black. Saturday Sweep Curling Whether you’re a curling know-it-all or a novice, come on down to our Saturday Sweep Sessions at intu Braehead! Every Saturday until 2 April 2016. Jim and Malcolm received a fantastic welcome and hospitality and the entire Town Council led by Mayor Francis Melon attended the signing. The twinning aims to promote friendship between the communities of Mérignies and Kilmacolm through golf, schools and other social activities, consistent with the spirit and principles of the Twinning Agreement between the two villages signed last year. This is also another step towards Kilmacolm Golf Club becoming the “Course of Choice” in this area and provides a range of benefits for the membership. Among other things, the agreement provides for reciprocal free golf at each others courses and the intent to hold regular matches between the two clubs. A group of golfers from Merignies will be coming to Kilmacolm in 2016 to play a match as part of KGC 125th anniversary celebrations. The Country Club is relatively new and 27 of the planned 36 holes are now complete. They have a top class restaurant, clubhouse and practice facility, and they plan to open a superb hotel and spa complex in 2017. Sporting Blog by Winter Is Here! Unfortunately winter is here and it’s more important than ever to stay focused on your fitness goals and to keep fit and healthy. Often motivation drops off at this time of year; the cold, dark and usually wet mornings and nights put people off leaving their house or getting up early to head to the gym or train outdoors. So, I thought I would give a few tips to try and help you keep your routines going over the winter. 1. Consistency/Planning. You might have spent the last few months in a great routine and being consistent in your training and diet. So why should this change? It shouldn’t. Just because it is darker and colder should not stop you. Keep planning your workouts and diet in advance and prepare things the night before. If you always went to the gym in the morning, organise your stuff the night before so you aren’t searching for anything in the cold and dark mornings and keep going. 2. Invest in winter clothing. “There is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.” - Sir Ranulph Fiennes It is really important that you have some good clothing for the cold, especially if you are training outdoors. This will help prevent you skipping workouts, blaming the weather. The investment in good clothing will be well worth it for the comfort, motivation and assist in keeping you injury free. Lesley Handley 3. HIIT indoors at home. High intensity interval training (HIIT) is a workout that can be done anywhere and often with very little or no equipment. You can complete a HIIT session with just a mix of bodyweight exercises and a stopwatch, meaning you don’t even need to leave your house to exercise. 4. Get a training partner. Training with someone else can be a great way to motivate yourself and help you stick to a training schedule. This is one of the reasons that training with a Personal Trainer can be so successful. If you commit to training with someone else you are less likely to skip a workout and you can also push each other to train harder. 5. Stay Hydrated. Most people love hot drinks when the weather is cold and wet outside. However swapping those glasses of water for cups of tea or coffee will do you no good. Good hydration increases the body’s ability to burn fat so it is still important to keep that water intake up. So don’t forget to continue drinking water throughout the whole day, just consider having it at a higher temperature or drinking things such as green tea instead to keep well hydrated over the winter months.
