Cultural Center Updates
“Palmetto with Flowers” by Jamie von Herndon, the latest
installation on the Public Art Trail, was unveiled last month.
The piece honors the nine souls that passed during the
shooting at Emanual AME Church in Charleston and the
victims of the latest South Carolina flood. A RFQ for the
2017 installation will be released next month.
Cultural Attendance
The Cultural Center has partnered with Carolina Bride &
Groom to host a fashion show. Due to snow, the fashion
show has been moved from it’s original date to Jan. 29,
3 p.m. The event will showcase the art and culture of
today’s prom fashion and will benefit the Connie Maxwell
Children’s Home.
Development and Annexation
The Office of Adjudication and Disability Review
(ODAR) has closed on an 18K sq. ft., $3M building,
which will become a state-of-the-art social security
court system that reviews disability cases. The City
seeks landscape changes for North Main, and the new
development is a step in a positive direction.
GCRA broke ground for a very important workforce
development housing project at the corner of Old
Mill and Miller Road. This project will provide quality
affordable housing to those working in the safety
community, including teachers, policemen, and
firemen.
City Council motioned to close part of Millport, helping
Project Signal meet one of its goals. The project will see
major development plans in the near future.
Annexation opportunites west and north of Mauldin will
be submitted to Council for review soon.
