THIMBLEBERRIES
by LYNETTE JENSEN
Getting Started
• If concerned about colorfastness, test
a 2-inch square of fabric in warm water
to see if dye is released. If so, prewash
and press the fabric.
• If concerned about shrinkage,
prewash and press all the fabric.
• Read instructions thoroughly before
beginning the project.
• For piecing, place right sides of
fabric pieces together and use 1/4-inch
seam allowances throughout unless
otherwise specified.
• It is necessary that accurate
1/4-inch seam allowances are used.
It is wise to stitch a sample 1/4-inch
seam allowance to check your
machine’s seam allowance accuracy.
10 th Street
• Seam allowances are included in

the cutting sizes given.
• Refer to arrows on diagrams for
pressing direction. If no direction is
specified, press seam toward darker
fabric and/or in the direction that
will create the least bulk.
Hourglass Blocks
Makes 12 blocks
Cutting
From ASSORTED PRINTS:
• Cut 2, 9-1/4-inch squares from
each fabric. Cut squares diagonally
into quarters for a total of 48 triangles.
Piecing
Step 1 With right sides together, layer triangles
together in a random fashion in pairs to make 24
triangle sets. Stitch along same bias edge of each
triangle set; press.

Note: Side/corner triangles are larger than necessary
and will be trimmed before borders are added.
Cutting
From each GREEN PRINT:
• Cut 1, 13-inch square.
Cut squares diagonally into
quarters for a total of 12 triangles.
Assemble Quilt Center
Step1 Referring to Quilt Center Diagram for placement,
sew together hourglass blocks and side/corner
triangles in 6 diagonal rows; Press seam allowances in
alternating directions by rows so seams will fit snugly
together with less bulk.

Make 24 triangle units
Step 2 Pin rows at block intersections and sew rows
together. Press seam allowances in one direction.
Step 2 In a random fashion, sew triangle units
together in pairs to make hourglass blocks. At
this point each hourglass block should measure
8-1/2-inches square.
Make 12
hourglass blocks
Step 3 Trim away excess fabric
from side/corner triangles,
taking care to allow a
1/4-inch seam allowance
beyond corner of each
block.
