Young, young Chiefs of Police are bobbing
up all over the place since we found
one in Sausalito recently. This latest one,
though, may really cop the first prize. He's
only 25 years old.
Frank J. Ferguson became Chief of Police
of Huron, California, last December
when he was but 24 years old.
When Tobie A. Bybee, policewoman of
Huron, read in a recent issue of the Po-
LICE AND PEACE OFFICERS' JOURNAL,
the claim of his friends that Louis Peter
Mountanos, Chief of Sausalito was the
youngest holding that post in California,
loyalty to her own boss prompted her to
send along the story of Chief Ferguson
and a picture of the personnel of his department.
Huron was incorporated in 1951 and
Glenn T. Clark was appointed the first
Chief. He passed away in May, 1956, and
Ferguson, then a patrolman, was named
Acting Chief which position which posi-
tion he held for six months. Last December
he was named Chief.
The youthful police boss is realistic in
his thinking and decisive in his actions.
Four others make up the department: Sgt.
Homer J . Worth, Patrolman John Saarloos
and Floyd Runion and Policewoman
Bybee.
The JOURNAL salutes the Huron Police
Department.
RESPONSIBILITY
Under the terms of the strengthened
financial security law, if a motor vehicle
is involved in an accident resulting in personal
injury to any one or damage to the
property of any one person in excess of
$100, and the owner or driver is unable
to show financial responsibility, the registration
certificate and the license plates
will be suspended and the car must be put
into storage at the owner's expense, warns
the California State Automobile Association.
