"Mad Bomber" Lesson Learned
ANTICS OF THE MAD BOMBER who recently terrorized New York, have had SOME beneficial results in that they have led to the setting
up of classes in the proper handling of explosives by law enforcement officers. Lt. Delwyn Albrecht of the Presidio, is shown here giving
Captain John P. Meehan and Captain Philip G. Kiely, (right) basic instructions. Fifty selected San Francisco policemen received lessons
from officers of the Sixth U. S. Army.
In an effort to be fully prepared against
of a "Mad Bomber" such as terrorized
the City of New York, or the work of an
training program at the Presidio of San
Francisco for fifty selected members of its
police force.
The three-day course included such subjects
as the identification of military and
commercial-type explosives, instruction on
the various types of detonating devices,
safety precautions in the handling of explosives
and explosive devices, and recommended
techniques. for disposal of
bombs and other devices. A highlight of
the course was a demonstration of the
power of various types of explosives conducted
at nearby Fort Cronkhite.
This training was conducted as a corn-
