Looks as though the old west has been revived and any minute one might see young Wyatt Earp suddenly draw and fire on the modern version of Billy the Kid. After a couple of matches the guns arrive in a neat shooting box and the belt is forever hidden away in the back recesss of the attic closet. NEW TARGET But to get back to the draw and fire stuff you should get a copy of the March issue of "GUNS" (one of the newer shooting magazines) and read the article "The Target That Shoots Back" - it's interesting to say the least. This target is built like a man and is electrically controlled to shoot back at you (with blanks, my dear fellow) if'n you don't beat him to the draw in 3/10's of a second. Try drawing and firing from the hip without live ammo and see how you'd make out if you were in front of the dummy shooter. Henry Bowes ups last month and marries Lois McElhany and for their honeymoon they tripsey to Florida in their new Henry J . While there they had nothing to do (2) so Lois enters the Midwinter Pistol Shoot in Tampa and wins the Sharpshooter aggregate medal. There must be something funny to be said about that but I'm darned if I can think of anything—maybe you can. RANGE Is SOLD Joe Dc Cola (no relation to Coke) informs me that the San Jose Pistol Club is now a golf course. Sounds like a trick Houdini would use in his act. It seems the Board of Directors at one of their night sessions voted to sell the grounds to a buyer who wanted to make the place into a golf hounds' haven. I understand that there were two negative votes for the sale but the "Ayes" have it—and so ordered. Does anyone know of a place the San Jose Club could obtain? I have been noticing of late that many shooting clubs have been trying to hold matches but for some reason or other they do not get the interest nor the crowds they should. There is plenty of shooting going on around our way, San Jose, Monterey, Sacramento and the likes but the shooters just don't patronize them. Take the case of John Bellera and the shoot he held a few months ago at Fort Ord. About 40 shooters turned out leaving John with a few dozen medals that he still has yet to dispose of. THEY HAVE TROUBLES Jake Cook, one of the newer shooters, was having a tuff time of it trying to get all his shots on the paper and was extremely happy in having found six out of ten on his timed fire string. Jake explains that he has been shooting for possibles all day and unless he gets the possibles he just don't want anything. In that he was not disappointed. Bill Dennis also had his troubles but in another way. Bill was having difficulties in getting them in the black and stated that this was caused because he cleaned his gun the night before the matches and as the gun hadn't been cleaned in many, many years he wasn't quite used to the action.
