Day 1, Lisbon – Obidos (90 km): Upon arrival at Lisbon Airport you<br />

are met and assisted you with your car-rental formalities at the Budget<br />

by AVIS car rental desk. Begin driving north to the medieval walled<br />

town of Óbidos and check-in at Josefa D`Óbidos Hotel for an<br />

overnight stay. This quaint and pretty town is worth exploring. Also visit<br />

the National Monuments in nearby Batalha, Alcobaça and the fishing<br />

town of Nazaré.<br />

Day 2 , 3 & 4, Obidos – Porto (245 km): Drive north to Porto, located<br />

on the bank of Douro River. Upon arrival, check-in at Hotel Vila Galé<br />

Porto for a 3-night stay. Visit its monuments and the historic UNESCO<br />

World Heritage classified City-centre. A visit to an Oporto wine cellar<br />

and perhaps even a boat cruise on the Douro River. A day trip to<br />

fascinating Guimaraes, with visits to its national monuments and historic<br />

buildings is recommended. Also, explore Braga with the 18th century<br />

shrine of Bom Jesus de Braga; the nearby town of Ponte de Lima and<br />

the Viana do Castelo with its handicrafts. (3B)<br />

Day 5, Porto – Coimbra (130 km): Driving south from Oporto, arrive in<br />

Aveiro, considered to be the Venice of Portugal. Visit Bussaco to see the<br />

Royal Palace before the drive to Coimbra. Check-in at Hotel Vila Galé<br />

Coimbra for overnight stay. Explore this unique town housing one of<br />

Europe´s oldest universities with its secular academic traditions. Another<br />

must is the monumental Roman ruins in nearby Conimbriga. (B)<br />

Day 6 & 7, Coimbra – Lisbon (205 km): Drive further south passing the<br />

seaside towns of Estoril and Cascais (the Portuguese Riviera). Arrive in<br />

Lisbon, the capital city with World Heritage monuments, vibrant culture,<br />

soulful music and great cuisine. Check-in at Hotel Mundial or Hotel<br />

Lisboa for a 2-night stay. Explore Lisbon’s attractions such as the Tower<br />

of Belem, the Jerónimos Monastery, Alfama and Mouraria, the streets of<br />

Bairro Alto and dining at typical restaurants that offer Fado singing.<br />

Not to be missed is nearby Sintra area with its unique Palaces. (2B)<br />

Day 8, Departure: Bidding farewell to Portugal, drive to Lisbon airport<br />

where you return your car-rental, or we can help you extend your<br />

holiday, exploring more of this fascinating land. (B)<br />

Of castles and kings. Discover Portugal’s magnificent history as you<br />

drive through countryside, exploring castles and fortresses that have<br />

been inhabited for centuries.<br />

Day 1, Lisbon – Castelo Novo: Arrive in Lisbon and proceed to collect<br />

your reserved rental car at Lisbon airport. Drive out for a panoramic<br />

visit of the city if you wish before driving to the beautiful village of<br />

Castelo Novo. The highlights are the medieval castle and the importance<br />

of the order of the Knights Templar in the medieval period.<br />

Overnight in Castelo Novo.<br />

Day 2, Castelo Novo – Idanha A Velha – Monsanto: Explore<br />

Castelo-Novo, then drive to Idanha-a-Velha, formerly an ancient Roman<br />

city that was donated to the Templar order. Also visit Monsanto, with its<br />

narrow streets, houses built between granite blocks and an impressive<br />

castle. Overnight in Monsanto. (B)<br />

Day 3, Excursion to Sortelha: After breakfast, explore Monsanto and<br />

later drive to Sortelha, a walled medieval village guarded by an<br />

imposing 13th century castle. Sortelha continues to remain one of the<br />

most beautiful, ancient and traditional towns of Portugal. Return to<br />

Monsanto for overnight stay. (B)<br />

Day 4, Monsanto – Almeida: A short drive to Almeida, known for its<br />

twelve-pointed star shape fortress, one of the most spectacular<br />

examples of 17th century European defensive systems. Explore this<br />

wonderfully preserved area. Overnight in Almeida. (B)<br />

Day 5, Almeida – Castelo Rodrigo – Marialva: Spend the morning at<br />

leisure. Mid-day, drive to historical Castelo Rodrigo and, passing<br />

through Douro Natural Park, arrive in Marialva. Discover the historic<br />

streets lined with weather worn buildings, the Citadel, and the Square.<br />

Here the 17th century ruins of Marialva castle deserve a visit.<br />

Day 6, Excursion to Linhares Da Beira: Today´s destination is Linhares<br />

da Beira, known for paragliding, an ancient medieval village believed<br />

to have been inhabited since Roman times. Its castle is a National<br />

Monument rebuilt in 1291. Return to Marialva for overnight stay. (B)<br />

Day 7, Marialva – Piódão: After a morning at leisure, mid-day drive<br />

to Piódão, one of the prettiest villages of Portugal, in-between the<br />

mountains of Açor, Lousã and Estrela. The houses are of unusual beauty<br />

surrounded by pristine scenery. Overnight stay in Piódão. (B)<br />

Day 8, Piodão – Lisbon: Following breakfast and check-out , drive to<br />

Lisbon airport where you return the rental car prior to boarding your<br />

onward flight. (B)<br />
