Mountains and Fjords
8 Days - 7 Nights from $ 4062 * P.P. DBL
Iceland's Westfjords offer stunning landscapes. Explore its majestic
mountains, deserted villages, and unique wildlife.
Day 1, Arrive in Reykjavik: We recommend the easy and convenient
shuttle transfers, which we can book for you. If your flight lands early in
the day, a great suggestion is to explore Reykjavík. Check-in time at
the hotel is 2:00 p.m. The town offers a multitude of restaurants that
you can choose from for dinner.
Day 2, Borgarfjordur – Stykkisholmur – Flokalundur: We begin our
adventure with a scenic drive to Hvalfjordur Fjord (Whale Fjord) and
explore the intriguing beauty of Hraunfoss (Lava Falls) and Barnafoss
(Children's Falls). Afterwards, a stop at Deildartunguhver hot springs. In
the afternoon, we arrive in Stykkisholmur village for a 2.5-hour ferry
ride across spectacular Breidafjordur Bay dotted with 3,000 tiny
islands with a rich bird-life. Dinner and overnight stay in
in the Flokalundur area. (B,D)
Day 3, Raudisandur – Latrabjarg – Breidavik/Patreksfjordur: Today
we will discover unique sights in one of the least visited places in
Iceland, the Westfjords! Stroll along Raudisandur beach that shelters a
large lagoon where seals and Arctic skuas are regular visitors.
Afterwards, a visit to the quirky folk museum in Hnjotur. Upon reaching
Latrabjarg, Europe’s largest bird cliff where we encounter amazing
number of sea birds. Keep an eye out for playful puffins. Dinner and
overnight stay in Patreksfjordur area. (B,D)
Day 4, Bildudalur – Isafjordur: Travelling along the winding coastline of
the magnificent fjords, we stop briefly to admire the spectacular Dynjandi
Waterfall before reaching Isafjordur, the honorary capital of the
Westfjords. The town has the finest and most beautifully restored timber
buildings in the country. Dinner and overnight stay in Isafjordur. (B,D)
Day 5, Isafjordur: This morning we travel to the fjord village of
Bolungarvík and sail across Isafjardardjup, the largest fjord in the
Westfjords, where steep mountains descend directly into the sea. Step
ashore on Hesteyri Island, an abandoned settlement where the elusive
Arctic Fox roam. Having thoroughly enjoyed some breathtakingly lush
nature we sail back to Bolungarvik. Dinner is on your own today as
Isafjordur has several excellent restaurants. Overnight stay. (B, L)
Day 6, Holmavik – Laugar Saelingsdal: Start the day with a visit to
the Arctic Fox Centre in Sudavik. En-route to Holmavik village, stop at a
quaint cafe to enjoy freshly baked waffles. Then on to Laugar in
Saelingsdalur Valley, an area rich in ancient Saga folklore and history.
Here you have the opportunity to soak outside in one of the thermal
pools. Dinner and overnight stay in the Saelingsdalur area. (B,D)
Day 7, Budardalur – Borgarfjordur – Reykjavik: Drive along Iceland's
West Coast to the Viking-Age house at Eiriksstadir. Meet modern day
Vikings who will demonstrate the lifestyle of 1,000 years ago. Later, a
stop at the local Erpsstadir dairy for some ice cream. In Borgarfjordur,
we will hike to the 3,500 year-old Grabrok volcano cone for some
incredible views of the Glanni waterfall. Late afternoon arrival in
Reykjavik for overnight stay. Tonight’s dinner is on your own.
Day 8, Departure: Breakfast and check-out. We recommend the easy
and convenient shuttle transfers, which we can book for you. If you did
not visit the Blue Lagoon on your arrival day, you might use the
opportunity to stop there now on your way to the airport. (B)
