4th May 2017
On May 4 th this year there are
your self care routine...
Modern life is increasingly
manic! Everyone is busier
than ever and usually the

care of ourselves.
However, the better you
take care of yourself, the
better you can take care of
everything else.
Self Care comes in so many
forms that you probably
haven’t even considered; for
example being aware of and
dismissing any false negative
self talk going around your
head has a massive impact on
your wellbeing.
It’s not about dragging
yourself to the gym or
forcing yourself to eat salads!
Although physical Self Care is
very important, it’s not all of
it. It’s about taking time out
to listen to your needs and
taking action to make sure
these needs are met!
How you can make yourself
your priority and schedule in
some YOU time? Trust me it
will have a positive impact on
everything else!
Do you want to be your
very own
…?
So I (Katie Gilbert, Editor of VFM, mom,
wife and general busy body) decided earlier
this year as one of my New Year resolutions
to do more and try new experiences that
will challenge me personally! I have always

life superheroes. Challenge set... I want to

Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS)

Pershore, Pebworth and Broadway.
After taking the plunge and completing an
online application, I was pleased I stuck to my
resolutions (which is very rare for me) and
promptly received my invitation to an aptitude
test in Worcester which I passed, which was a
pleasant surprise! I then headed to Redditch
Fire Station for the physical part of the
recruitment process.
Unfortunately I didn’t pass the physical part
of the challenge (this time)! But, it is
something I will remember for the rest of my
life as it was such an amazing experience! I
now know not only what I need to do to pass
but that I am braver, stronger and crazier
than I ever thought.
I am so pleased to have had the experience

and anyone that puts themselves forward
to the recruitment process. The one thing
that surprised me was the support I had
throughout my whole application, I was
worried I would be wasting the services time,
but until you try - how can you know for sure it
is what you want and can do? I cannot express

my application as well as Evesham Fire Station
who welcomed me into the station, detailing

and showed me full support throughout my
application process.
If you, like me, have ever thought it is
something you would like to do, it is worth

vacancies and if so how to apply.
If you are interested in becoming an on-call

Are you over 18 and work or live within

common sense, compassion, commitment,
discretion and teamwork.
A range of on-call contracts from between
as little as 40 hours a week up to 120 hours.
Full training, uniform and personal
development is provided and there are many
opportunities to gain additional skills and

You will also be serving your community in
many challenging situations.

helping you understand and achieve what this
means.
You can earn between £4,000 and £8,000
a year, sometimes more.
Family festival
organised by family
Local family woman, VW fan and
event organiser Natalie Clements
started a family festival Dubs in
the MIddle in Evesham in January
2014. Every year her shows grows,
bringing many visitors to the area
and raising lots of money for
charities along the way. Natalie
loves it so much this year's event she
will be getting married at the show.
We think Natalie from Evesham,
mom of 2 is pretty awesome, so we
asked her some questions to share
her good work with you.
How much have you raised and who
for? Over £9000 - Help For Heroes
(£1968) Helen and Douglas house
(£2400+ - stall and donation) Air
Ambulance (4000+) and around
£600 yet to be donated along with
whatever we generate this year.
Evesham Sea Cadets is nominated
charity this year.
Who inspires you? My Mum and Dad

life in general - they work hard and
have made me want to do the same,
they give so much to help others
and they made me who I am today.
My Grandad was a huge person in
my life until he sadly passed away
and was the reason I go into charity
work with doing The Poppy Appeal/
British Legion for years with him.
Natalie added “These shows are
more than just a hobby to me!
They are a way of life, a life that my
partner and children have supported
me on! I like to give back what I
can to the community as you never
know when you will need it, good
karma right?
“I have made so many friends
through the festivals and that’s why
we decided to hold our wedding
blessing at the show - we like to
think we have 3000+ guests and
everyone is entitled to a slice of cake
(its 4ft x 2.5ft of cake so plenty to go
around)”
Where and when is your next show?
26 May at 12:00 to 29 May Ashdown
Farm, Badsey Road, Evesham,
Miss Lily Bermingham
Fladbury First School
Willow Class, Year 1 and 2
What was your favourite
subject at school? I enjoyed
all my lessons when I was at school,
but my particular favourite subjects
would have been cookery and
computers. Especially cookery, as I
got to bake then eat some amazing
dishes. Yummy!
Name 2 things you love
about your job? I love working
in a school that has so much fun and
great teamwork. The teamwork in
my class brings me happiness and I
cherish watching the children reach
new achievements. I also love that
‘Friday feeling’! After PE on a Friday
afternoon, when the class (and I)
realise it is the weekend – we love a
little sing along and dance.
Can you Dab? I’m pretty sure
this move comes out during the
school discos, along with many other
amazing dance moves!
What did you want to be when
you were a kid? As a child, I

so I could drive a fast car.
Question the
Teacher
Do you like apples? I love

a tree, because they are delicious in a
fruit salad and ice cream.
What did you have for
dinner last night? I made an
Italian evening full of homemade
lasagne, garlic bread and fresh salad. I
was good last night and didn’t have a
naughty pudding.
Who is your hero? My hero has
always been my Mum. She has always
supported me through tricky times at
school and while moving to university,
when I studied to become a teacher.
Now I am a teacher, I hope to be
just as good as my Mum at teaching
young children.
If you could have super
powers, what would they be? I
would like to see into the future and
watch the children I teach grow up.
Joy of chocolate
and some fun facts!
The smell of
chocolate increases the
brain waves that triggers
relaxation!
(so it is good for us)

dipped in chocolate (Yuk or
Yum?)

sick and even kill them so
don’t give them a bit of your
Easter egg no matter how
much they beg.

can kill you. It contains
theobromine which causes
heart failure, kidney damage
and dehydration. BUT you
would need to eat 22lbs or 40
bars of dairy milk at once!

chocolate bar in the world for
its 100 th birthday. It weighed
5,792.50kg.

contains 8 insect parts!

dark chocolate has a number

every day it reduces the
risk of heart disease by 1/3
(Hooray)
However and wherever you

have an enjoyable one!
