hear this talk and learn how to ghost hunt. I didn’t know any of them,
and most were closer to my dad’s age than mine, but it was
astounding how normal they looked. There was one couple that had
to be in their sixties, and two that had to be twin sisters. Nobody was
dressed in black with hundreds of piercings. Hmm. Perhaps the
nameless geeky guy behind the counter had a point.
At 6:00 on the nose, the woman with the LHPR shirt clapped
her hands together and gave us a huge smile. I’m talking airplane
signal bright. “Welcome to Ghost Hunting 101,” she greeted us.
“I’m Daisy, and this is Richard. We’re the founders of Lark Hollow
Paranormal Research, which has been investigating the paranormal
throughout New England for twenty years now.”
Twenty years? That was my entire life. I had no idea the idea
of ghost hunting had been around so long. I didn’t remember any of
the shows being on TV when I was a little kid. Then again, I usually
ran out of the room crying when my dad had something creepy on
TV, and my mom would swoop down and rip him a new one for
making me upset.
“There is far too much information and training involved in
becoming a ghost hunter to teach you all of it in a four-hour class.
So today we’ll go over the basics, which include the types of spirits
you may encounter, how to protect yourself against them, the
equipment we use, and how to conduct an investigation,” Daisy
explained.
Richard spoke for the first time then. “We’ll be available
after the class for questions. If any of you are interested in starting
your own group, we suggest that you come and speak to us at the
end of the class and we can tell you how to find additional
information. This is a lot of stuff to take in for one night, and some
of it’s probably going to get a little confusing. If you’re just

“Let me begin by asking how many of you have had a
paranormal experience?” Daisy piped up again. Several hands in the
room went up, some of them enthusiastically, and others a bit more
