to know.
He must have noticed the gears turning behind my eyes,
because he sat back on his stool like he was getting comfortable.
“Okay. This is new to me, so bear with me.”
Tucker just spread his palms and gave a small smile.
It was as if I had a bucketful of questions and he had just
tipped it over. They were swimming all over my head, crashing
against my brain like waves, one after another spraying up. I wasn’t
sure where to a start. After a moment, I decided on one. “So, where
do you find ghosts, exactly?”
“In short?” he responded. “Everywhere.”
Yup. That was the kind of answer that made me scared to
ask my questions. “They don’t just stay where they died like in the
movies, do they?”
He shook his head. “Think about it. If you died, would you
want to stay wherever it was that you passed away? A hospital or
your bed? Sure, I mean, you’ll find some hanging out in those
places, but for the most part, we’ve found that ghosts haunt where
they lived. Places they enjoyed being while they were alive.
Sometimes places where there were significantly emotional or
traumatic events like battlefields and schools. But there aren’t really
any rules. They can pretty much go wherever they want, whenever
they want.”
“So you really can’t even assume you know who it is that’s
hanging around,” I mused. “I mean, if there was an old man who
passed away in his house, he might not be there anymore once he
was dead. But someone else might be.”
“Exactly. The most important thing to remember is as much
as we’ve learned about the subject in recent years, there is still so
much we don’t know. There aren’t any definite answers.”
I paused to let this sink in. They had mentioned this on
Friday night, but there was so much information all at once that it
hadn’t really hit me. In theory, Tucker was telling me there could be
