Canada, shared prior year on-campus recruiting
experiences and provided useful advice to those CATOs
that are recruiting for the first time on campus this year.
Participants also gained valuable insights into the minds of
accounting students and an understanding of the factors
that influence their choice of careers and employers. The
findings were presented by Samir Khan and Anthony West
from DECODE (Decoding Youth, Young Adults and Young
Families). The CATOs all found the survey results
fascinating and useful in helping design a recruiting
strategy to attract the right students!

Networking
The event also provided an opportunity for the CATOs to
meet each other and develop working relationships. To
further build on networking opportunities, the Institute
hosted a Q & A session following the recruiting strategy
discussion and invited representatives from all Ontario
university career centres to meet the CATOs. This session
enabled CATOs and Career Service representatives to
discuss the campus-recruiting process and learn about the
best ways to become involved with recruiting events that
put the CATOs directly in front of the students that they are
seeking.

Working together
Both the discussion and the Q & A session were very
successful. The feedback received from all of the
participants was extremely positive and all the CATOs
expressed a strong interest in continuing these discussion
sessions on recruiting best practices. The Institute is
pleased to support the CATOs by hosting more recruiting
round-table sessions in future. We hope that the CATOs
that were unable to attend this year will be able to join us
at our next session in 2010.

New Practical Experience
Requirements 2009
The updated competency-based model used to assess the
practical experience of all CA students is effective
September 1, 2009. This impacts CA students beginning
employment in the traditional path on or after September 1,
2009, and all CA students employed in non-traditional
paths. The new CA Practical Experience Requirements
(PER) 2009 and related publications were mailed out in
August. If you haven’t received the package or need
