Wray Named 2009
Recipients of ICAO Award
of Outstanding Merit
The Institute’s Council has elected Sheila Fraser, FCA,
James L. Goodfellow, FCA, and Donald G. (Don) Wray,
FCA, as the 2009 recipients of the ICAO Award of
Outstanding Merit. The highest honour that the Institute can
bestow, this award recognizes conspicuous and sustained
service to or on behalf of the CA profession, including
service to the community.
Sheila Fraser has been
Auditor General of Canada
since 2001 and has focused
the Office’s efforts on ensuring
that parliamentarians have
objective and reliable
information with which to
scrutinize government
activities and hold the
government to account for its
stewardship of public funds.
Her Office’s reports have
become much anticipated
and very influential. Ms. Fraser has also been very active
within the profession, serving on and chairing numerous
committees. She is the recipient of many honours,
including honourary Doctor of Laws degrees from seven
universities – in recognition of her contributions to the fields
of accounting and legislative auditing.
James Goodfellow was a
Vice-Chairman of Deloitte &
Touche LLP prior to his
retirement in 2008, and has
over 40 years of experience in
public accounting and in
providing assurance and
advisory services, primarily to
large public companies. Mr.
Goodfellow has also been
very active within the
profession, serving as Chair of
both the Canadian Institute of
Chartered Accountants’ Accounting Standards Board and
Chair of the Canadian Performance Reporting Board. The
author of several publications, he is also a frequent
speaker at conferences on issues related to financial
reporting, corporate governance, securities regulation and
audit committees.

Donald Wray had a
distinguished career with
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP
prior to his retirement, serving
in Hamilton, Toronto and
London, England. Mr. Wray
also has a law degree and
has appeared in Ontario
courts as an accounting
expert
A past-President of the
Ontario Institute, Mr. Wray has
served on various committees with the Canadian Institute
of Chartered Accountants, the Public Accountants Council
for the Province of Ontario and the International Federation
of Accountants. He has also served his community
extensively, including holding board and committee roles
with Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Hamilton Health
Sciences, the Hamilton Community Foundation and other
community organizations.
Ms. Fraser, Mr. Goodfellow and Mr. Wray were all formally
recognized and presented with their awards at the FCA
celebration dinner, held in September in Toronto.
