Although the fact is well known, it is equally well ignored . Most birds, insects and many larger animals spent the majority of their lives in bushes and trees, or under leaves. Their world is not in the open in plain view, it is hiding in the undergrowth searching for food or just hiding from people. Most people walk around viewing the vista before them, many photographers are guilty of doing the same. They miss most of the world around them because they have not yet learned to see what is contained within that vista. It helps to know what to expect in various locations and environments, birds in bushes is an easy one to understand, but you will not find a brimstone on the sandy beach no matter how hard you look. Know the subject and their camouflage, after a while you will see those critters who are trying to hide, and may even get to take the pictures.
