Ritual of the Dawn at Denderah Temple

At the Denderah temple there was another kind of tantric ritual. Each year the image of the
goddess Hetheru was brought out before dawn, following a procession of priests and priestesses,
uttering chants and bringing offerings to the roof of the temple. There they waited for the dawns
first light, which would touch the naked goddesses body and thereby be impregnated with the life
force of the sun (Heru) and thereby the cycle life and prosperity continues on for the next year.
