School Points of Pride
Early Childhood Education Center
• All 13 district preschool sites accomplished the first
milestone in Colorado Shines, the new statewide
early childhood quality rating system, by raising
quality ratings one level.
• Staff members completed training in Pyramid Plus,
a model curriculum for training early childhood
providers focused on positive guidance and
inclusion strategies.
• Held three rounds of parenting classes in English
and Spanish to families of preschoolers.
Federal Heights Elementary School
• Added an additional 108 hours of student
contact time during the 2016-2017 school year
by expanding the day.
• PTO supplied a Hispanic Advisory Council
scholarship to a deserving Five Star student
for the third consecutive year.
Glacier Peak Elementary School
• Students participated in a year-long “Miles to
a Marathon” race accumulating distance by
running laps around the track each Tuesday
during lunch recess.
• Student Council sponsored an annual Giving Tree;
collecting toy donations for the Adams County
Santa Claus Shop, and canned and non-perishable
food items for the local food bank.
• Battle of the Books team won the district’s
Battle of the Books Competition.
Hillcrest Elementary School
• Improved to a performance-rated school.
• Received a grant from DaVita Dialysis for the
Shoes that Fit program providing 175 pairs of
shoes to Hillcrest students.
• Continued partnership with Crossroads
Church and Northglenn Police providing
nearly 100 families with Christmas presents.
Horizon High School
• Graduating senior received an appointment to the
Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and ten
students from Horizon’s DECA program qualified for
the International Career Development Conference
competition.
• For the second year, the SOAR Honors Program
received grant funding for its work on Continuous
Improvement Strategies and Data Driven
Instructional Shifts from Adams County
Youth Initiative.
• For the second consecutive year, the girls
basketball team made it to the Great Eight
round of the state basketball tournament and
were Front Range League Champions.
Hulstrom K-8
• Received the John Irwin School of Excellence Award
for excellent academic achievement.
• Bretta Loeffler, first grade teacher, was selected as
the recipient of the PBS Digital Innovator Award for
the state of Colorado.
• Implemented a schoolwide initiative around Depth
and Complexity, an instructional model designed to
guide students to think and discuss at deeper levels
through inquiry.
Hunters Glen Elementary School
• Teachers and students are using Growth
Mindset, Kagan structures, and Depth and
Complexity Framework.
• Completed first annual Jump Rope for Heart
fundraiser for the American Heart Association
where students collectively jumped more than
one million times.
• Led by the Student Council, students raised
$1,713.09 in a coin drive benefiting the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
