Students lay a wreath at the Menin Gate in Ypres
Exploring the muddy trenches of the Battlefields
helped students imagine conditions experienced
by allied forces during the First World War. Two
students had the honour of laying a wreath as
part of the Last Post, a ceremony which has taken
place every evening since 1928 at the Menin Gate,
Ypres, honouring the courage and self-sacrifice of
those who fell in defence of the town. Evidence
of the true human cost of the War was seen on
the final visit to the Cloth Hall in Ypres and Tyne
Cot cemetery (the largest commonwealth military
cemetery in the world).
Conquering the hire wire
Building confidence, resilience and the opportunity
for new adventures are just some of the reasons that
students have signed up to the Duke of Edinburgh
Programme. They are currently planning a range of
activities in order to complete the Bronze Award over
the next six months which include basketball, mountain
biking, volunteering at the local library and helping at
an animal charity. Students will also plan a two day
overnight camping expedition challenging navigational
skills, camp craft and promoting teamwork.
Students ready for the clean up
There was no shortage of volunteers to help
support the ‘clean-up day’ in Swaffham town
centre recently. Always keen to get involved with
activities in the wider community, eight of our
students joined forces with the local townspeople
in a pledge to keep an area of the town free from
litter. Kitted out with high viz vests, gloves, litter
picking tools and bin bags students cleared the
hedgerows and pavements of rubbish and have
promised to repeat this exercise if necessary
during the Summer.
Whether climbing the high wire or improving their
archery skills, students enjoyed the many exciting
activities at Kingswood in Overstrand recently.
TNHA organised the residential trip for Year 9
students to experience challenges demanding
problem solving, initiative and teamwork in the
grounds of Lutyens Manor House. All thoroughly
enjoyed their stay, returning tired and full of
stories of their great adventures!
Swaffham Infant School
Swaffham Infant and Nursery train is ready for all to
climb on board.
Friends of Swaffham Infants asked local firms if they
could help in any way to renovate the outside play
train and were pleased when Johnstone’s Decorating
Centre and Brewers Decorating Centre from King’s
Lynn donated some paint. They were amazed when
AMB Plant, Civil and Utility Contractors, from
Swaffham offered to complete the work themselves
including replacing wood and flooring. The work was
completed over the Easter holidays, and as you can
see the children are loving it!
Photo shows Mr Alan Bailey and Mr Craig Dye from AMB
Plant as some of the children thank them for their work.
