Susan Pimentel<br />

President, Susan Pimentel, Inc., Hanover, NH<br />

Susan Pimentel is president of Susan Pimentel, Inc. and a founding partner of<br />

Student Achievement Partners, a nonprofit devoted to accelerating student<br />

achievement of all students by supporting effective and innovative<br />

implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Before her<br />

work as the lead writer of the Common Core for English Language Arts and<br />

Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects<br />

(ELA/literacy), Ms. Pimentel was a chief architect of the American Diploma<br />

Project Benchmarks designed to close the gap between high school demands<br />

and postsecondary expectations. She has more than 30 years of experience in<br />

working on standards-based education reform. Ms. Pimentel recently guided a<br />

14-state working group in creating curriculum, improving instruction, and<br />

enhancing learner outcomes for the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED’s)<br />

Adult Education Content Standards Warehouse project. As lead content<br />

developer, coach, and trainer for ED’s Standards-In-Action initiative, she<br />

developed a series of standards-based education innovations for adult<br />

education that have been implemented by 15 state teams. Since 2007, Ms.<br />

Pimentel has served on the National Assessment Governing Board, an<br />

independent, bipartisan board that sets policy for the national assessment of<br />

education progress, and she currently serves as the Board’s vice-chairman.<br />

She holds a J.D. and a B.S. in early childhood education, both from Cornell<br />

University.
