Mathematics Panel Members<br />
Gayle Box<br />
Associate, Strategic Initiatives, Kentucky Adult Education, Kentucky<br />
Council on Postsecondary Education, Frankfort, KY<br />
Gayle Box is an associate on the strategic initiatives team for Kentucky Adult<br />
Education. Before joining Kentucky Adult Education in 2007, she spent five<br />
years as the lead adult education instructor in Perry County. Ms. Box worked<br />
on the Kentucky Adult Education Standards for mathematics and was one of<br />
two state leads for Kentucky on the Standards-in-Action project. She served<br />
on the Council for Postsecondary Education Mathematics Committee, which<br />
was charged with reviewing drafts of the CCSS as they were presented to<br />
states for input. She is the adult education representative to the state<br />
Committee for Mathematics Achievement, which promotes coordination of<br />
professional development related to the CCSS for K–12, postsecondary, and<br />
adult education. Her current responsibilities include professional development<br />
and college readiness initiatives. Ms. Box holds degrees in education from<br />
Texas State University, and she spent 24 years teaching general music and<br />
choir in Texas public schools.<br />
Donna Curry<br />
Senior Professional Development Specialist, Tech Education Research Center<br />
(TERC), Cambridge, MA<br />
Donna Curry has more than 30 years of experience in adult education as a<br />
teacher, program coordinator, and curriculum specialist. She has professional<br />
development expertise in the areas of adult numeracy, adult education<br />
standards, and workplace education integrating academic and interpersonal<br />
skills. Ms. Curry has participated in four national projects: Standards-in-<br />
Action, the Equipped for the Future standards initiative, the Adult Numeracy<br />
Instruction Project, and Teachers Investigating Adult Numeracy. For<br />
Standards-in-Action, she served as a coach, providing technical assistance to<br />
states on implementing adult education math standards in the classroom. Ms.<br />
Curry holds an M.Ed. in education from Augusta College (now Augusta State<br />
University).
