FINDING THE RIGHT RUNNING SHOE
When it comes to finding a new pair of running shoes my best pieces
of advice would be to find some which are comfortable on your foot,
lightweight, flexible and a pair with minimal cushioning or stack
height. Please note that if you are thinking of changing shoes and
your running technique, I would strongly suggest a consultation first.
This is only a guide and may not be suitable for each individual.
1. NIKE FREE 5.0
A good starting point if you are used to a
conventional cushioned trainer and looking
to switch running technique are something
like the Nike Free 5.0. Nike pitched them
as their ‘most cushioned, natural ride,’ and
ideal for road running.
3. CLOUDFLASH
I have also recently bought their latest model - the
Cloud Flash. Weighing in at a mere 175g, and with
a heel to toe off-set of 5mm, these shoes are for
what they claim ‘athletes that go for gold!’. They
are a superbly light racing shoe that uses
its cloud technology to transform
and transfer impact energy
from the runner into forward
momentum. I am yet to test
them in a race, but they feel
great in training. They are
also costly at a staggering
£160, and I would not
normally pay so much
for a running show –
however with the fit
and feel that On
shoes offer, I
could not
resist!
2. ON CLOUDFLOW
Weighing in at 190g, with a heel to toe
off at 6mm, these are a great shoe that I
personally feel are super comfortable.
They are lightweight and the ultimate
performance shoe and I can attest
they stand up to running along
some tough terrain including
summiting the Snowdon
peak last month.
They adopt the cloud
technology which literally
feels like you are running on
clouds, and make you feel light
and bouncy yet without the added
weight of a traditional cumbersome
shoe. The downside is they’re expensive
- retailing at £120. If you are a member of
a running club some running shoe shops will
discount 10% which is always a bonus. The other
advantage is they are super stylish and come in 2
gorgeous colour schemes, so you are certainly set to woo
the crowd too! A winner in my eyes and by far my favourite
running shoe of all ( and I have a lot!). They’re worth every
penny in my opinion.
4. NEW BALANCE WT10V4
If you are already a forefoot striker, and have been
running like this for some time, then I would suggest
the New Balance Trail WT10V4 with its minimalist
design. These too offer a lightweight ride without
sacrificing underfoot cushioning or stability.
