Age need not be a “bar”..!
If Man Kaur at 101 can.......Why not others…?!
An awe-inspiring story of achievement is here!
Mrs. Man Kaur aged 101 years from Chandigarh
won 100m Sprint in the “100 years and
over”category at Auckland, New Zealand in the
recently concluded “World Master Games” which
attracted around 25,000 competitors. She took
her own time of 1 minute 14 seconds to cover the
distance to take her 17th Gold medal in her enviable
sports career to break into a self confident and
sprighty celebration of the classic victory later.
Man Kaur took up athletics at the age of 93 as
suggested by her son Gurdev Singh. She had
no previous exposure in Sports. Since then this
great mother and son had been taking part in
different International Masters Games and,
more important, enjoying the participation.
Although she was lone competitor, the spirit,
energy and attitude are to be appreciated
and worth emulation to the best extent.
Behold; she competed in 200m Sprint, 2kg Shot
put and 400gm Javelin in Auckland to take her gold
medal tally to a whopping 20 ! (Wonder whether
Usain Bolt “the Great” is seriously thinking to leave
athletics and join Football because of this…!?)
Moral of the story ! The story of Man Kaur should
help the society to come out of the “retirement
phobia” and urge to live on smartly as ever or better.
Yes, go on... and on till spontaneous full stop !
