TEST This dome is built to a high standard, it performs very well and provides a good level of reliable functionality 9.0 out of 10 (continued from p12) Performance The camera is given a sensible manufacturer’s sensitivity figure of 0.4 Lux colour at 1/30th second (0.1 Lux colour at 1/8th second) and 0.04 Lux B&W at 1/8th second. These were readily achieved with reasonable colour images albeit with AGC noise, to well below 1 Lux scene illumination. The 30x zoom range performed well with the 4.4mm to 132mm lens giving a horizontal field of view from 63.4° to 2.3°. The additional 12x digital zoom can be useful in some situations and although progressively reducing the effective resolution gave reasonable images through most of the range. The camera does not have any image flip or mirror functions so most of the sample images in the manual are inverted. A micro SD card of up to 32GB capacity can be fitted and is accessed by way of a slot in one of the side covers. Although this would be difficult when mounted at ceiling height it is possible without having to remove any parts. Formatting and Unmounting commands are available via the browser interface so it is not necessary to remove power to install or change the SD card if the unit is in situ. Event recordings are stored in avi format and include a jpg image of the associated action that triggered the event. Wide Dynamic settings are Off, Auto, True WDR and Advanced WDR. The Advanced setting tended to give an overall grey appearance to the image with the True WDR setting giving a better contrast range but the Auto setting gave the best overall results when viewing a scene with a large external window. No specification figures are given for the image sensors actual dynamic range. While the camera does not have any form of infrared lighting it is very sensitive to infrared when in night mode so can be used with infrared support lighting. User PTZ control is allocated on a “Last user first served” basis so any requirement to prioritise would need to be managed by the control system. Positioning appears to be by analogue rather than stepper motors with a well-balanced mechanism and has direct gearing rather than belt drive. The tilt range is an impressive 105° and includes an auto-flip feature. Pan operational speed is from 0.25° to 100° per second and is proportional to zoom allowing sensible control over distant subjects. Any preset position can be reached in less than 1 second with zoom position in under 4 seconds. The camera supports up to 96 presets, 16 patterns, 16 sequences, 16 areas and 32 privacy zones, giving a large amount of flexibility for automated patrols. A reset button is accessible through one of the side plates and this forces a camera restart is held for more than 5 seconds. The motion detection is very simple with just an overall detection area and sensitivity settings of Lowest, Low, Medium, High and Highest. However this operated well and movement events can be associated with “Fault actions” to define what to do, such as Record to local memory, E- mail, FTP, CIFS or PTZ action control. When set to record it records avi files to the Micro SD card with user defined pre and post event record durations. The associated jpeg file is of the triggering event. Conclusion While some of the functionality may seem limited compared to some other recent offerings, this dome is built to a high standard, it performs very well and provides a good level of reliable functionality. Product Test follow-up Following the review of the Serage SRTVIVDPRO camera in last month’s edition, UK distributor G-Tec wanted to point out two factors which they feel were not covered by the test and are worthy of note for installers. 1. The lens is motorised and can be controlled from the DVR not just by the dongle inside the camera (which really should only be used as a back up if the camera is not connected to the DVR yet) but the idea is that the customer can mount the camera, not having to open it and then zoom it from the DVR to the required angle where then the camera will auto focus on its own. This is a feature which G-Tec believes gives a benefit to the installer especially if the customer requested the angle of view to be changed in the future, where this can be done remotely without having to visit the site . 2- The camera has a built in cable management base - another benefit for installers. 14 www.psimagazine.co.uk
