(8) The fan and the parasol<br />
(i) Reception for the ancestral spirits:<br />
After the ceremonial attendants<br />
assemble at the stands for the fan<br />
and the parasol, on hearing “yíng<br />
shén” (“Welcome the spirits”), the<br />
drum sounds for the second time,<br />
stoop and reach out to hold the<br />
items. The parasol will be held by<br />
the East Ceremonial Attendant,<br />
the fan will be held by the West<br />
Ceremonial Attendant, with the<br />
inside hand at shoulder height<br />
