Dryland Multi Club 4-H has busy year<br />

Our 4-H club has been very<br />

busy this year.<br />

In February, our club had a<br />

3-day clipping clinic and<br />

everyone got to wash and clip<br />

their calves, and on the last day<br />

with Darby-Anne Swanson<br />

showing the Reserve Champion<br />

First in the Two Year Old<br />

Class went to CodiShae<br />

Cromarty of Stainsleigh and<br />

second place went to<br />

TraetinLerae Cromarty of<br />

Stainsleigh.<br />

In the Three Year Old class,<br />

TraetinLerae Cromarty placed<br />

first and Kira Axley of Czar//<br />

Metiskow came in second.<br />

The top two females out of<br />

each of the above classes<br />

returned to the ring to compete<br />

for coveted title of overall<br />

Champion Female. CodiShae<br />

Cromarty was Grand<br />

Champion Female and Dulcie<br />

Turner was declared Reserve<br />

Champion Female.<br />

Herd Competition<br />

The Herd Competition consists<br />

of a member’s yearling,<br />

2-year old and 3-year old projects<br />

entering the ring and being<br />

judged as a unit.<br />

Market Steer Show<br />

The individual Club Shows<br />

which began at 10 a.m. June 1<br />

with Czar/Metiskow first into<br />

the ring, followed by Amisk,<br />

then Stainsleigh. Brady<br />

Moncriff was the judge for confirmation<br />

at the Club level.<br />

overall Junior Showman and<br />

Tylie Dick second, both are<br />

members of Amisk.<br />

In the Intermediate age<br />

group, Tori Cromarty of<br />

Stainsleigh placed first and<br />

Taycee Dick placed second.<br />

Senior Showman of the day<br />

In the Junior Grooming, first<br />

grooming by taking first place<br />

After the Club Shows were<br />

their baby calves. Next in the<br />

ring was the Novice Beef<br />

shown by Morgan Cook.<br />

Our club all got to go skiing in<br />

Elk Water and everyone had a<br />

blast. There was also a District<br />

Curling event in February. This<br />

event was made to help 4-Hers<br />

speaking. Several of our members<br />

went on to Districts and<br />

Regionals.<br />

We had a tour of Primrose<br />

her steer slapped as Grand<br />

Champion and Jaylynn<br />

McQuaid of Czar/Metiskow<br />

came in Reserve Champion<br />

with her steer.<br />

Rate of Gain awards were<br />

presented with Joni Motley’s<br />

steer having gained 4.49 lbs/day<br />

and Hayden McQuaid’s steer<br />

gained 3.92 lbs/day.<br />

Perseverance Award to a<br />

first year member who tries<br />

their hardest but doesn’t land<br />

in the winner’s circle, was<br />

awarded to Hayden McQuaid of<br />

Czar/Metiskow and honourable<br />

mention went to Emma<br />

Cromarty of Stainsleigh and<br />

Matthew Neudorf of Amisk.<br />

The Jennifer Lavigne<br />

Memorial 4-H Scholarship was<br />

presented to Dulcie Turner and<br />

Cody Heck.<br />

Awards were also presented<br />

for the Carcass Project which<br />

had been previously completed<br />

in early May. Provost Livestock<br />

Exchange hosted the Live<br />

Judging portion and a few days<br />

later, the members met at<br />

Provost Packers with the Meat<br />

Grader to go over some grading<br />

basics before we went in to view<br />

the hanging sides.<br />

Tori Cromarty’s steer was<br />

crowned Grand Champion and<br />

RandiLynn Cromarty was<br />

Reserve Champion.<br />

Sale<br />

The Grand Champion steer<br />

sold for $2.59 per pound. The<br />

Reserve Champion steer sold<br />

for $2.15 per pound. Thirty<br />

steers sold.<br />

Seven Market Sheep sold<br />

with the Grand Champion of<br />

Alyssa Carson for $400 and the<br />

Reserve Champion of<br />

RandiLynn Cromartys $280.<br />

Dairy farm and saw the<br />

robotic milking machines<br />

and all the calf barns. After<br />

the tour, we all got milk and<br />

cookies.<br />

In April, we had a judging<br />

workshop at Powell’s that<br />

taught everyone how to<br />

judge animals at the Show<br />

and Sale. This was for all the<br />

members in the district.<br />

In May, we also had<br />

highway clean-up and all<br />

4-H members were encouraged<br />

to participate. We had a<br />

mock show and a carcass<br />

evaluation workshop that<br />

taught everybody how to<br />

evaluate carcass animals.<br />

After the mock show we had<br />

a barbeque.<br />

Our District Show and<br />

Sale is on June 10 in<br />

Youngstown and we have a<br />

lot happening throughout<br />

the day.<br />

This year we are encouraging<br />

past 4H members and<br />

leaders to attend our Show<br />

and Sale to help celebrate<br />

100 years of 4-H in Alberta.<br />

As a tribute to our 4H history<br />

we have organized “A<br />
