Marriot Hotel Overland Park, Kansas August 12 - Sons of Union ...

Congressional District of the State of North Carolina has
introduced House Bill 4705 requiring the Secretary of the
Treasury to redesign the face of the fifty dollar Federal
Reserve Notes to include the likeness of President Ronald Wilson
Regan. And, whereas House Bill 4705 is being co-sponsored by
the following seventeen Representatives. There‘s a list of
names. whereas eight, House Bill 4705 has been referred to the
House Committee on Financial Services. And, whereas President
Ulysses S. Grant was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio and grew up in
Georgetown, Ohio and served the United States with distinction
during the Mexican War and became the first person since
President George Washington be elevated to the rank of General
of the Army after successfully leading the Union Military Forces
to victory in the Civil War resulting the preservation of the
United, Union of States while showing mercy toward the military
forces of the defeated Confederate States of America. And,
whereas President Ulysses S. Grant was elected President of the
United States in 1868 with nearly seventy-three percent of the
electoral votes and was re-elected for a second term in 1872
with over eighty-one percent of the electoral votes, thus
demonstrating that he was a very popular President during a very
challenging period of reconstructing the defeated Confederate
States of America. And, whereas President Grant‘s image has
graced the fifty dollar bill for over three quarters of a
century, the removal of his image from that currency will serve
to diminish his contribution to our heritage and will make it
more difficult for current and future generations to understand
and appreciate the significance of the American Civil War.
Whereas we have no objection to honoring President Ronald Wilson
Regan, we submit that Congress should honor him in some way
other than the proposed House Bill 4705 since that Bill will
strip President Grant of an honor already bestowed upon him by
the American people. And we urge that members of Congress be
reminded that President Grant‘s legacy and its importance to the
preservation of the United, Union of States. Therefore it is
resolved that this Resolution is adopted on this 27 th day of
April, 2010 of the 188 th Anniversary of the birth of President
Ulysses S. Grant and a copy of this Resolution be sent to the
Ohio Department Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War for
their support and this Resolution and submission at a 129 th
National Encampment of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil
War seeking their support of this resolution. As I mentioned,
it did receive the support of the Department of Ohio.
